Summary
The Department of Surgery is seeking candidates for a Research Engineer/Scientist role. A Research Engineer/Scientist conducts research in various fields of engineering to design and develop technology and to carry out investigations, evaluation, and application of engineering theories and principles. The position will be based on three-year terms which will be renewable based on performance and abilities to secure and support externally funded research. Academic rank commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Job Duties
Essential Functions include, but are not limited to:
- Performs a variety of research and development activities requiring the application of engineering or science-based practices and principles.
- Attend clinical meetings to discuss patients with ventricular assist device, to provide perspectives on the VAD support from an engineering standpoint.
- Designs, operates, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and engineered systems utilizing engineering or science-based practices and principles.
- Advises faculty, postdocs, students, and staff with engineering design, modification, prototype and process development, analysis procedures, and other engineering solutions.
- Performs failure analysis, optimization studies and other investigations.
- Evaluates findings to develop new concepts, equipment, or processes.
- Ensures supplies are available and operational for use in projects.
- Develops proposals, budgets, schedules and progress reports and presents results to internal and external stakeholders.
Minimum Qualifications
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering related to designing of rotary pumps.
- Doctoral Degree from an accredited institution
