The Department of Writing & Rhetoric at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year visiting assistant professor position in rhetoric and public address, beginning fall semester 2021. The department seeks a colleague who can contribute to the ongoing development of its liberal arts program in rhetoric, writing, and speaking. A tenure-track hire in this field has already been authorized, and the successful candidate will be encouraged to apply for that position.

Required qualifications: PhD, completed or near completion in rhetoric or related field; demonstrated excellence in teaching public speaking. Preferred secondary specialties include civic engagement, sonic rhetorics, and rhetorics of performance. Experience teaching first-year composition particularly welcome. Teaching responsibilities for the year consist of five courses, including public speaking, and upper-level courses in the candidate’s area of specialty.

There will be an opportunity to teach or develop a new course that would contribute to the Writing & Rhetoric minor concentration.
