Position Details

Wesleyan University’s College of East Asian Studies invites applications for a nine-month Foreign Language Teaching Assistant ( FLTA ) position in Chinese, from September 1, 2021 to May 31, 2022.

The workload of the FLTA is 19 hours per week, teaching and serving as an assistant to the full-time Chinese language faculty. Responsibilities include checking and grading students’ assignments and quizzes, holding TA sessions/office hours, holding weekly Language Tables, and actively participating in other China-related cultural activities on campus, such as Chinese New Year and Mid-Autumn Festival.

The FLTA will have student status as a non-degree-seeking graduate student, giving them access to graduate student housing and eligibility to enroll in up to two courses per semester for credit with tuition waived; there is no limitation on the departments in which the courses are selected.

The FLTA will receive a stipend of approximately $2,100 per month. All costs for transportation, room, board, and the student share of health insurance premiums will be the responsibility of the FLTA .

Minimum Qualifications

A B.A. or M.A. in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language, Chinese Language and Literature, or related areas is required.
