La Salle University

Vice President of Student Development & Campus Life

La Salle University in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, invites nominations and applications for a bold, collaborative, and skilled leader to serve as the next Vice President of Student Development & Campus Life.

When La Salle was founded by the Brothers of the Christian Schools in 1863, it was the first institution of higher education in the world to bear the name of St. John Baptist de La Salle. As the University has evolved since its founding, La Salle has effectively blended its identities as a comprehensive, urban university with its Lasallian mission, creating a warm, inclusive campus community that shares a particular concern for first-generation college students and those members who may not otherwise have had access to higher education. La Salle serves 3,300 undergraduate and 1,300 graduate students on a picturesque main campus that is situated on 133 acres in Northwest Philadelphia, six miles from the cultural, historic, and social attractions of Center City. Classes and programs are also offered at La Salle’s Bucks County Center in Newtown, Pa., and the Montgomery County Center in Plymouth Meeting, Pa. La Salle is consistently cited for value and outcomes by organizations such as U.S. News & World Report, The Wall Street Journal, Money magazine, and Forbes.

The Vice President of Student Development & Campus Life will build upon a strong foundation to imagine, develop, and implement a vision for student development that parallels the aspirations of the University. Reporting to the President, the Vice President will provide leadership, vision, and strategic direction for a division that includes Residence Life; Housing; Campus Life; Commuter Engagement; Retention and Student Belonging; First Year Programs/Orientation; Student Conduct; Student Wellness Services; Multicultural and International Student Center; University Ministry, Service and Support; and La Salle Public Safety. The Vice President will help fulfill the University’s core mission of service to a diverse student body from all walks of life including undergraduate, graduate, part-time, and non-traditional students. With the opportunity to greatly contribute to the trajectory of an institution that is committed to excellence, access, and community, the Vice President will be responsible for building partnerships and opportunities that bridge academics and student development, for creating programs and services to enhance student wellness and retention, and for ensuring a robust multicultural community.

The next Vice President of Student Development & Campus Life will be a visionary, approachable, skilled, and innovative leader with exceptional administrative, financial, and managerial skills. The leader will demonstrate the ability to partner with the President, senior leadership, faculty, athletics, staff, and students to break down silos and support the whole student experience. The successful candidate will possess a deep understanding of current best practices in student development, the ability to motivate an experienced and skilled professional staff, the skill to balance day-to-day priorities while keeping the big picture in mind, and dedication to advancing the work of student development within the context of the Lasallian mission. As a community committed to justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion, La Salle welcomes applicants from diverse perspectives and experiences; it is expected that the new Vice President will bring a proven record of and commitment to advancing these values.
