Nurse Aide/Nursing Faculty
Patrick Henry Community College (PHCC) is a comprehensive two-year college of the Virginia Community College System, serving the City of Martinsville and the counties of Henry and Patrick. PHCC serves approximately 3,500 credit and almost 2,700 non-credit students annually and, consistently ranks among the top ten “Most Tech-Savvy” community colleges in the country by the Center for Digital Education. It is one of the nation’s 82 “Achieving the Dream” Leader Colleges. The college offers transfer programs, in addition to career-track and certification programs, and serves more than 200 employers through workforce development. It is a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
Position Summary:
PHCC
is seeking a full-time 9-month nursing instructor. Instructional
assignments include classroom, laboratory, and the clinical
setting. This instructor will serve as the Nurse Aide Program
Coordinator and Primary Nurse Aide Instructor. In addition, the
instructor will teach other nursing and health courses as assigned.
Full-time faculty are required to teach 12-15 credit hours per
semester and may be required to teach various courses within the
designated discipline/field of study. Full-time faculty members
will also serve as faculty advisors, serve on
department/division/campus/college committees, participate in
curriculum development, and other responsibilities as assigned. The
nurse aide program is an approved Virginia Board of Nursing Nurse
Aide Educational program and hence complies with all Regulations
for Nurse Aide Education Programs 18 VAC 90-26-10 et seq. The
nursing programs are conditionally approved by the Virginia Board
of Nursing and comply with regulations 18VAC 90-27-10 et seq. This
is a 9-month faculty position to begin August 16, 2021
Special Assignments
May
be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to
assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an
emergency declaration by the Governor.

Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in
Nursing from an accredited institution required by start date; must
hold a current Registered Nursing license or have multistate
licensure privilege to practice nursing in Virginia as Registered
Nurse without any disciplinary action that currently restricts
practice;
Must have two years of experience as a registered nurse within
the previous five years and at least one year of experience in the
provision of long-term care facility services. Such experience may
include, but not be limited to, employment in a nurse aide
education program or employment in or supervision of nursing
students in a nursing facility or unit, geriatrics department,
chronic care hospital, home care or other long-term care setting.
Experience should include varied responsibilities, such as direct
client care, supervision, and education.
Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication
skills; ability to teach a combination of day, evening, and
weekend, hybrid, and/or online classes, skills laboratory, and
conduct clinical. Candidate should be familiar with utilizing
computer and other technologies for instruction.

Nursing faculty are required to maintain current American Heart Association BLS certification, receive yearly Tuberculosis screening, and provide proof of current immunizations.
Nursing faculty may be required to don PPE during instructional periods in all settings and may be required to be tested for COVID19 as directed by clinical agencies.
Documents verifying identity and eligibility to work in the United States must be presented upon employment.
Prior to being assigned to teach the nurse aide education program, all instructional personnel shall demonstrate competence to teach adults by one of the following (18VAC90-26-30 D.): 1. Satisfactory completion of a course in teaching adults that includes: a. Basic principles of adult learning; b. Teaching methods and tools for adult learners; and c. Evaluation strategies and measurement tools for assessing the learning outcomes; or 2. Have experience in teaching adults or high school students.
Candidates who do not have concept-based curriculum experience
must participate in available continuing education.
Candidates may be required to participate in professional
development for instructional technology, core content/subject
matter development, and other related opportunities.
