Position Summary:
The User Services Consultant for Arts and Humanities is responsible for providing technical support and assistance to faculty and student employees in the departments of Art, Music, History, English, Anthropology, Rhetoric, TIUA, language and additional departments. This position provides support for research lab computers and associated software and instrumentation used by the above departments as well as classroom teaching computers, and in the above departments Macintosh computers significantly outnumber Windows computers. The person in this role works independently and as a team member on a wide variety of projects that have a distinct impact upon the operation of WITS and the University as a whole. The position involves a significant level of contact with students, faculty and staff as well as with individuals and organizations outside of the University. The employee may be required to travel locally and nationally to attend conferences and training sessions.

JOB DUTIES:
- Serves as the initial point of contact for College of Liberal
Arts faculty and staff with questions regarding computing and
network equipment, software, and the implementation of technology.
Researches and recommends solutions as necessary. Assists faculty
and staff in purchasing hardware and software.
- Manages the setup and maintenance of the computer hardware and
software in laboratories and research spaces of departments listed
above. Ensures technology needs of the students and faculty using
these facilities are satisfied in a timely manner.
- Maintains Apple-based lab management utilities and assists with
their use.
- Coordinates technology support for faculty and staff including,
but not limited to standard software applications, computing
devices, the campus network, peripheral devices, and audio-visual
equipment. Maintains an updated inventory of computing equipment
utilized by the supported departments.
- Researches established resources and explores emerging
technologies to support faculty needs and encourages the adoption
of appropriate technology solutions. Serves as a resource person
and coordinator for the integration of educational technologies
into courses. Assists faculty with the development of projects
utilizing information technologies.
- Serves as a member of the WITS User Services group.
Participates in meetings of the User Services group and contributes
to finding solutions to technology problems pertinent to all
segments of the University community. Conducts training sessions on
topics of particular expertise. Supports other members of the WITS
User Services group and other groups within WITS as
needed.
- Continually seeks opportunities to proactively improve the
computing environment at Willamette University
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the knowledge, skills and abilities required to perform the essential functions of the position.
- A Bachelor's degree is required; and one in a field related to
one or more of the above departments is highly
desirable.
- Minimum of two years of experience working user services in a
networked computing environment.
- Demonstrated experience creating user documentation.
- Demonstrated knowledge and experience in:
- a. Consulting with users on various software, hardware and
network problems.
- b. Operation and trouble-shooting of computers, tablets,
smart-phones and other peripheral devices. c. Support of Microsoft
and Apple operating systems.
- d. Supporting users with applications including but not limited
to Microsoft Office, Google Suite, and Adobe Creative Cloud
applications.
- e. Use and support of a Learning Management System
(LMS)
- A proven customer service orientation with excellent
interpersonal and communication skills. 6. Willingness to work with
a broad range of educational technologies and to remain current in
the field.
- A proven ability to make technical issues understandable and an
ability to match technical opportunities to University
goals.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A Master's degree in a field of study related to the above
listed departments.
- Experience supporting information technology in higher
education.
- Experience in development of instructional
materials.
- Experience programming in one or more modern computer
language(s) and relevant experience beyond the minimum
requirement.
Typical Work Schedule:
Monday - Friday 8am to 5pm
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
Typical work is performed indoors in a normal office environment. Intermittent physical effort involving lifting up to 25 pounds is required.
