Job Description

The Virginia Tech School of Architecture + Design within the College of Architecture and Urban Studies, invites applications for Visiting Instructor position(s) in the School of Architecture + Design for Fall 2021 to Spring 2022.

Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to design as it relates to objects, the built environment, services, humans, and the surrounding ecosystem. Ideal candidates would have the capacity to teach an interdisciplinary foundation design laboratory, as well as
provide instruction in specialized areas of knowledge in one of the school's four departments.

Candidates should be able to create a setting for the pursuit of theoretical, practical, and productive knowledge while embracing the duality of the education of the individual and the practice of the profession. The integration of the candidate's work with the School’s experimental tradition in design, cross-disciplinary and hands-on teaching is essential.

The position(s) will require the capacity to work in diverse teaching environments and across disciplines.

Required Qualifications

A terminal degree in the field of Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Industrial Design or Interior Design, by the appointment start date.

Established teaching experience.

A proven ability and achievements to communicate ideas central to design through both representation and words.

Preferred Qualifications

A record of publication or exhibition in the field.

Establishment and documentation of cross-disciplinary work.

Leadership and/or involvement in community activities.

Work experience in the design field.
