About the Bard Early Colleges
Through a tuition-free, engaging college program in the liberal arts and sciences with robust supports, the Bard Early Colleges help high school students, particularly those at risk of not completing postsecondary education, access, afford, and complete college prepared to contribute to the workforce and civic life. Students are taught by college faculty in seminar classes; they receive up to 60 college credits and an associate in arts (A.A.) degree from Bard College, concurrently with a high school diploma. The Bard Early Colleges begin preparing students for college work as early as the 9th grade and offer ongoing guidance and academic supports. Now in its second decade, the Bard Early College network serves over 2,850 students in five states and Washington, D.C. Since 2003, Bard College has awarded more than 3,000 A.A. degrees to its early college students.

Bard High School Early College DC (BHSEC DC), a partnership between Bard College and the District of Columbia Public Schools (DCPS), invites applications for full-time Special Education Teacher, beginning August 2021. BHSEC DC seeks candidates with a background in counseling, youth development, and/or specialized instruction; experience working with students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans is required.

Position Duties
The Special Education Teacher will work with a team of student support staff members to ensure that all school supports and services are leveraged to purposefully serve the social-emotional and academic needs of students with Individual Education Programs (IEPs) and 504 plans. Staff members will work with the Dean of Students and LEA Representative to lead school-wide initiatives to ensure students with IEPs and 504s are provided the specialized instruction and related services to which they are entitled. Staff members will also coordinate ongoing engagement efforts with the families of students with disabilities by leading parental outreach and family engagement, information distribution, and cooperative problem-solving to create an engaging, welcoming, and inclusive school culture. Additionally, they will provide the necessary training for faculty members in providing appropriate accommodations to students and will lead IEP and 504 meetings for individual students.

Qualifications
Graduate degree in Education, Special Education, a Related Services discipline;
DC Special Educator license (by time of hire)
Three or more years of successful professional teaching, social work or counseling experience;
Experience in urban schools (desired);
Knowledge of federal and local special education law;
A demonstrated ability to effectively communicate and coordinate with adolescents and adult stakeholders.
Preference for a candidate with a Mathematics or other STEM background
