Position Summary

Seeking a Research Technician to work in the School of Pharmacology and Toxicology. Our lab investigates the molecular control of cell fate and homeostasis of resident stem and progenitor cells in the human brain. Using a combination of multicolor cell sorting techniques and whole genome analysis, we are characterizing the signaling pathways which regulate the formation and fate of human oligodendrocyte progenitor cells. We are testing the functional significance of these pathways using both pharmacological and viral methods in culture and transgenic animal-based models of myelination and demyelination.

Specific duties include:

  • Working with rodents, animal care. Genotyping and transgenic colony maintenance.
  • Perform experiments and record and interpret results.
  • Assistance with general laboratory management and maintenance of a safe working research environment.
  • Use techniques including, but not limited to PCR, gel electrophoresis, aseptic mammalian tissue culture, immunofluorescence, microscopy, and basic histological techniques.
The candidate should be familiar with MS Windows-based PCs and the use Microsoft Office Software including Word and Excel. The successful candidate will work under the direction of senior research personnel.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree or two years formal training in a STEM discipline ideally with a life-sciences focus, and at least 3 years of experience directly related to laboratory research. Also requires familiarity with the standards used in the field.

Preferred Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Biology, Biomedical Sciences or Biotechnology or related field plus additional research experience in the handling and use of animals and/or some experience with tissue culture.
