JOB TITLE SUMMARY

Job Title: Certified Officer, Public Safety and Security

Division: Operations

Reports To: Associate Director, Public Safety and Security

Job Summary

The certified public safety and security officer is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for students, staff and visitors by patrolling the campus, reporting crime and enforcing policies of the university.

Essential Job Functions and Performance Indicators

The intent of this job description is to provide a representation of the types of duties and level of responsibility that will be required of positions given this title. Job Responsibilities and Execution

  • Secures premises by patrolling property, monitoring surveillance equipment and inspecting buildings, equipment and access points
  • Upholds the university’s standards and reputation by complying with legal requirements of the Clery Act
  • Provides public assistance, including lockout services, first aid, vehicle jump‐starts and traffic direction
  • Prevents loss and damage by reporting irregularities and informing violators of policy and procedures
  • Maintains up-to-date knowledge of the university’s Emergency Action Plan
  • Enforces campus parking regulations
  • Completes incident/accident reports for missing or stolen property and criminal activity; assures accurate reports, including detailed, complete observations and information
  • Enforces and upholds university policies


Service Excellence

  • Accompanies visitors, students and employees upon request
  • Supports the mission of the university and serves as an ambassador of the Q2 culture of service excellence
  • Models, supports and holds others accountable to the university’s values – integrity, dedication, excellence, creativity and teamwork


Communication, Teamwork and Collaboration

  • Completes reports by recording observations, information, occurrences and surveillance activities
  • Educates violators on proper policies and procedures
  • Interviews witnesses and obtains signatures

Required Qualifications – An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered. Additional requirements may be designated by position.

  • Associate degree or equivalent experience
  • Valid driver’s license
  • Acceptable criminal background check
  • Law enforcement experience
  • Missouri law enforcement officer certification
  • Firearm proficiency as well as ability to meet state qualifications
  • Must obtain CPR and First Aid certifications in a timely manner

  • Must be able to remain calm while responding during emergencies

  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite

  • Varied shifts, including days, afternoons or midnights
  • Some exposure to hazards and physical risks, which requires basic safety precautions
