DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH SERVICES ADMINISTRATION AND POLICY

Graduate Program Director of Health Policy & Management

At a time when public health has never been more important, Temple University’s College of Public Health is working to solve health’s complexities for a better tomorrow. As one of the largest colleges of public health in the country, we are home to faculty who specialize in 17 health disciplines to prepare researchers, practitioners and educators to collaborate across disciplines to understand community needs, create evidence-based solutions, and deliver effective, compassionate care.

We invite applications for both Graduate Program Director of Health Policy and Management and Instructional Faculty members.  These non-tenure track faculty positions will join us in Summer 2021 or Fall 2021. Rank (assistant, associate, full professor) depends on experience.

Qualifications. The ideal candidates will have an earned doctorate with at least 5 years of public health, health services or health administration experience, with prior record teaching graduate students at the master’s and doctoral levels. Candidates are welcome from relevant disciplines in public health and social science disciplines. For the program director position, we seek passionate professionals committed to academic leadership in training the next generation of practitioners and researchers about the real-world aspects of public health policy and management. We value diversity and seek individuals committed to inclusion in education and professional practice. The initial appointment may be for one year, but longer-term appointments are available for faculty with considerable experience who demonstrate effective and excellent teaching and service.

Responsibilities. The Graduate Program Director will schedule MPH and PhD courses, participate in recruiting and review of applications for graduate student admissions, work closely with the Graduate Advisor to provide guidance to all MPH students, coordinate faculty advisors for PhD students, develop workshops, journal clubs and other professional development opportunities for graduate students, attend monthly Graduate Council meetings, attend monthly MPH curriculum meetings, coordinate program improvement, lead curriculum improvement, coordinate CEPH accreditation reports, conduct other duties as needed, and teach relevant courses.

The Instructional Faculty Positions will primarily teach in the classroom, but we particularly seek persons with experience in online education. This includes familiarity with learning management systems and communication/educational software. All faculty are active in the local community and contribute to the curriculum and the School’s committees.

The Department and Programs. The Department of Health Services Administration and Policy is comprised of accredited academic programs, including BS in Health Information Management, MPH in Health Policy and Management, MS in Health Informatics, and PhD in Health Policy and Health Services Research. The Department also offers graduate certificates in Health Informatics, Public Health Law Research, and Clinical Health Services Research. Faculty are engaged in teaching, research, and entrepreneurial activities with about 300 students. The Department contributes to the College’s BS in Public Health and BS in Health Professions. Research emphases are in the areas of the impact of laws and policies on health, quality of care, healthcare financing, disparities and access to care, public health law, evolving methodologies for big data analytics, and the impact of health information technologies.

Dr. Huanemi Wu, an accomplished biomedical informatics researcher with expertise in big data and technology, joined Temple as Department Chair July 1, 2020. With extensive experience in faculty and student recruitment and academic program development, Dr. Wu is leading the department, established in 2015, through an exciting transformation. The department’s research and educational programs integrate health informatics, health services research, and health policy and management by bringing innovations and applications of big data analytics, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to healthcare, advancing healthcare and policy through digital health technologies, mobile health, and health tool inventions.
