The Peabody Institute of the Johns Hopkins University invites applications for an interim, full-time faculty position in Computer Music in the Conservatory. This is an interim, one-year, full-time faculty position with the possibility of renewal.

The initial appointment will begin July 1, 2021 . Compensation is commensurate with professional experience. The successful candidate will teach applied computer music lessons, synthesis theory and digital music programming, as well as courses in the specialty of applicant may also be desired.

Located in the heart of Baltimore’s Mount Vernon Cultural District, the Peabody Institute was founded in 1857 as America’s first academy of music. Today, through its degree-granting Conservatory and its community-based Preparatory music and dance school, Peabody trains musicians and dancers of every age and at every level. Each year Peabody stages nearly 1000 major public concerts and performances. Peabody is one of the nine divisions that comprise the Johns Hopkins University.

The ideal candidate for this position will be a passionate educator and an extraordinary musician who is committed to excellence in teaching, has a demonstrated record of national or international musical engagement as a composer and educator, and enjoys working in a campus climate that promotes cultural diversity and multicultural understanding.

The successful candidate will teach applied computer music lessons, synthesis theory and a one-year sequence in programming languages such as Max, Pure Data, or SuperCollider, as well as courses in the specialty of applicant may also be desired.

During the Influenza ("the flu") season, as a condition of employment, The Johns Hopkins Institutions require all employees who provide ongoing services to patients or work in patient care or clinical care areas to have an annual influenza vaccination or possess an approved medical or religious exception. Failure to meet this requirement may result in termination of employment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
