This Instructor works closely with the Visual Arts Chair and other Visual Arts Faculty in delivering a broad and comprehensive, 4-year college foundation in the Visual Arts that prepares 9-12th grade students for successful application to competitive higher education arts programs, as well as creative and critical aptitude development applicable to any field of study and civic engagement.  Students are admitted to the Visual Arts Department on promise, passion, and aptitude for the visual arts through a portfolio audition process.  Learn more about NMSA:  https://www.nmschoolforthearts.org

Additional VAD administrative and curricular duties include: create and develop communications/PR elements as needed, admissions, auditions, outreach, assessment, field trips, securing new and maintaining current resources (supplies/equipment), studio maintenance and cleanliness, organizing safe and accountable methods for student use of equipment, exhibitions, donations, student portfolio reviews, reflective teaching, developing student internships, assisting in NMSA VA Gallery maintenance and duties, curriculum development and reflection, materials/budget oversight and purchasing, end of year production and annual fundraising, guest artist recruitment and planning, attendance at all faculty and staff meetings and in-service dates, supporting student’s college application process, and developing and promoting student opportunities in the arts.  Ability to professionally, clearly, and compassionately communicate via phone, email, and in person in a timely manner with students, parents, and all NMSA staff/faculty, to collaborate, maintain strict standards of confidentiality, submit grades in a timely required manner, support minors in academic, artistic, and emotional growth, attend to learning differences (attention to 504/IEP), and overall flexibility and reflective practices in teaching methodology are required and supported by close mentorship from the VA Chair.

This position is for one year with potential for renewal pending budget and evaluation processes and approvals.  Contract time period is early Aug-early June.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Maintain professional and supportive relationships with students, faculty, staff, parents, and community

  • A satisfactory fingerprint-based background check is required prior to employment

EDUCATION/LICENSURE

  • MFA in Studio Art highly preferred
  • Candidates DO NOT need to acquire or hold New Mexico Public Education licensure with a visual arts endorsement, but that is helpful to have or pursue.
