JOB DESCRIPTION

The University of Indianapolis is accepting applications for the position of Director for the Office of Financial Aid. This is a full-time, exempt position. The Director is responsible for the administration of over $150 million in federal, state, university and private sources of financial assistance for UIndy students. This assistance is awarded on the basis of many factors such as financial need, merit and talent and is essential to the University’s ability to enroll both undergraduate and graduate students. With guidance from leadership, the Director must collaborate with other administrative areas to maintain an optimal balance between enrollment and retention goals, tuition discount rate and net income. Administrative capability and compliance must be maintained for federal and state aid programs for continued institutional eligibility. The Director is responsible for managing all resources to accomplish department goals and to represent financial aid interests throughout the University.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Articulation of mission, goals and objectives of the financial aid office
  • Management of all office operations necessary to request and distribute financial aid funds from federal, state, university and outside sources
  • Supervision of financial aid staff and the development of all institutional policies required either by government regulations or institutional priorities to administer federal, state and university student financial aid programs
  • Act as a liaison with the recruitment and marketing/communication divisions to create new business processes that use financial aid as a recruitment tool for prospective students
  • Analyze data from various sources to develop new aid programs and to strategically distribute UIndy scholarships to maximize recruitment and retention of students
  • Monitor, understand and manage institutional policies and federal and state regulations to ensure compliance
  • Connect, mediate and coordinate internally and externally with students, parents, faculty, staff and others that award financial aid
  • Fiscal accountability for all student aid programs
  • Efficient use of technology to streamline operations
  • Establish and maintain a positive and cooperative working relationship with the administrative and academic community to effectively coordinate compliance, data sharing, policy development and procedural changes
  • Articulate issues, interpretations of law and regulation and represent views of faculty, staff and students in the development of policy to Cabinet and other groups
  • Travel as required to off-campus meetings, university functions and local, regional and national conferences


QUALIFICATIONS

  • Five years of experience as a Director or Associate Director of Financial Aid is required
  • Minimum of a Baccalaureate Degree is required, Masters Degree is preferred
  • Complete knowledge of all aspects of the administration of federal, state and university financial aid programs with a working knowledge of federal and state law and regulation is required
  • Experience/expertise in data analytics or skilled use of business intelligence tools is required
  • Student and family centric approach to customer service is required
  • Strong communication, project management, data analysis and supervisory skills are required
  • Experience with strategic enrollment management fundamentals is required
  • Ability to communicate complex policies and procedures in written and verbal form to students, parents, staff and other stakeholders required
  • Ability to manage multiple, demanding tasks in a time-sensitive work environment and have a sense of urgency in completing those tasks is required
  • Sensitivity to recognize both emotional and practical needs of people in a counseling situation coupled with a sincere desire to provide help and support required
  • Positive, others-oriented attitude and a sincere desire to provide service beyond the student’s or parent’s expectations are required
