This position provides educational outreach and counseling for the Talent Search program, assisting low-income first generation students in preparing for and pursuing post-secondary education. The position also assists the project director with program operations including data management and tracking for Federal performance reporting.

The selected candidate will: conduct assessments and provide educational, career and personal counseling assistance; assist participant with preparation of admissions and financial aid applications and make appropriate referrals to aid participants in pursuing and continuation of post-secondary education; track students as they enroll in and progress through post-secondary programs; assist project director with selection and training of new employees; provide guidance and report progress of new employees during probationary period; maintain participant files and submit information for database; prepare reports to demonstrate progress; document problems and maintain accountability for monitoring and evaluation; develop and maintain relationships with high schools and middle schools served by program; work with schools to identify and recruit participants and disseminate information regarding program services; design and deliver higher education workshops to inform participants and families of educational opportunities; coordinate participant enrollment and support services at appropriate institutions through travel to various schools in the grant's target area.

This position is a full-time, 9-month, academic year position (September 1 through May 31).

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Ability to relate to target population and to market advantages of college education
  • Knowledge of FAFSA form and completion process; ability to manage time and multiple tasks
  • Strong organizational skills; ability to maintain comprehensive participant records and to interpret those to develop action plans for each participant
  • Strong computing skills; knowledge of Blumen data management program.
  • Knowledge of the Chattanooga community and familiarity with available resources for participant referral
  • Knowledge of the Hamilton County School system
  • Demonstrated knowledge, education, and/or experience with first-generation students through formal training, work experience, and personal life experiences.

Minimum Qualifications : Bachelor’s Degree in marketing, communications, psychology, education or related field; minimum of two years of experience in counseling, academic advising, financial aid, or education.
