Project Summary
The purpose of the Bard DNA Fellows Program is to provide additional academic support, mentorship, professional and leadership development, and a sense of community to BHSEC Queens students during their four years here. The Bard DNA Fellows Program aims to support students from historically underrepresented and/or economically disadvantaged backgrounds in their academic, social and emotional success at BHSEC Queens.

This summer, rising Year 1 students, in the Bard DNA Fellows Program, will be taking a 1-credit college course. The purpose of this summer course is to support the academic transition of students who will be entering the college program in the Fall. It will also give students the opportunity to take a college course that is not offered here at BHSEC Queens.

BHSEC Queens is seeking (1-2) faculty members who will teach a 1-credit college course during the summer. The course will take place virtually from July 5th - July 30th. In the past, this course has taken place two days a week for 1 hour and 45 minutes per class. Considering the challenges with teaching and staying engaged online, this class could be broken up into shorter times during the week, equaling 210 minutes of class time per week. Additionally, Faculty will be required to hold one office hour each week of the course.

Faculty will be compensated with a $1,250 stipend.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
  • Develop an academic curriculum for the 1-credit college course
  • Identify and incorporate within curriculum skill building crucial for students’ success in college-level classes
  • Hold one office hour each week of the program (totaling four hours over the summer)
Preference is given to Candidates with the Following Qualifications:
  • Currently teaching in the Bard High School Early College Network
  • A proposal for a college course currently not offered here at BHSEC Queens
  • Prior experience working with historically underrepresented students in higher education
