About Northeastern:
Founded in 1898, Northeastern is a global research university and the recognized leader in experience-driven lifelong learning. Our world-renowned experiential approach empowers our students, faculty, alumni, and partners to create impact far beyond the confines of discipline, degree, and campus.

Our locations—in Boston; Charlotte, North Carolina; London; Portland, Maine; San Francisco; Seattle; Silicon Valley; Toronto; Vancouver; and the Massachusetts communities of Burlington and Nahant—are nodes in our growing global university system. Through this network, we expand opportunities for flexible, student-centered learning and collaborative, solutions-focused research.

Northeastern's comprehensive array of undergraduate and graduate programs— in a variety of on-campus and online formats—lead to degrees through the doctorate in nine colleges and schools. Among these, we offer more than 195 multi-discipline majors and degrees designed to prepare students for purposeful lives and careers.

About the Opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of Strategic Partnerships and based in the San Francisco Bay area, supporting our two campuses in San Francisco and San Jose, the Assistant Director of Career Development & Experiential Learning provides our student population with career development while building our career development team in the region.

As the first member of the career development team in the region, the Assistant Director will develop and execute overall career support and experiential learning strategies for the San Francisco and Silicon Valley campuses including career-related services, advising, and reporting. Our campuses provide technology-oriented programs including computer science, information systems, data analytics, data science, and project management.

Responsibilities:
Key responsibilities:

  • Serve as the initial member and “startup” leader of our career services team and building an innovative approach for how higher ed institutions approach career development in our region (e.g spend morning advising a portfolio of students, running a career program in the afternoon, and strategizing about the next evolution of the career services portfolio before the end of the day)

  • Work with different programs and academic colleges to develop effective career support strategy for programs under the regional portfolio

  • Own career and professional development for our growing student population including managing innovative career events, delivering seminars, hosting networking opportunities, and growing the signature career programming for the region.

  • Collaborate with our central Career Design office to ensure sharing of best practices, shared strategies, and joint initiatives

  • Partner with relevant corporate/employer relation teams (central and regional) across the university to ensure career opportunities for students are aligned to their goals and needs

  • Develop and implement reporting capabilities, business processes, and KPIs to enable industry-leading tracking of career support satisfaction and career outcomes for our students (including career outcome tracking)

  • Oversee development of experiential projects in collaboration with faculty and/or industry sponsors (industry hackathons and co-curricular projects that help students build experience)

    Qualifications:
  • Bachelor degree required with a minimum of 5+ years or equivalent experience supporting career development at a higher education institution or job-focused training program (e.g. bootcamp/workforce development)

  • Ability to be both an individual contributor and manager when needed

  • Excellent skills in relationship building, event planning, marketing, public relations and database management

  • Entrepreneurial attitude and ability to both develop strategy while building the services

  • Ability to work across functions with demonstrated ability to work in a team environment with diverse constituents.

  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, customer relationship management platforms, database programs and data management and analysis; experience with Salesforce desired.
