At a time when public health has never been more important, the College of Public Health at Temple University is working to solve health complexities for a better tomorrow. As one of the largest colleges of public health in the country, we are home to faculty who specialize in 17 health-related disciplines to prepare researchers, practitioners, and educators to collaborate and address community needs, create evidence-based solutions, and deliver effective, compassionate care. We invite applications to join the Department of Kinesiology as non-tenure track faculty beginning fall 2021.

Qualifications. We seek enthusiastic, dedicated professionals with a background in kinesiology, exercise psychology, exercise science, nutrition or a related field to instruct core classes in the department. The ideal candidate for one position will have a strong record of teaching behavioral science (i.e., psychology of physical activity and/or health behavior change), as well as the ability to develop and teach courses related to health equity and physical activity, and historical and philosophical dimensions of physical activity. The ideal candidate for the other position will have expertise teaching exercise science, exercise physiology, and/or nutrition sciences. Preferred areas of experience include online instruction, working with community organizations, and coordinating field placements. Applicants may be ABD, with attainment of their PhD prior to start date. Rank is open at the level of assistant, associate, or full professor depending on qualifications. We seek individuals committed to collaborative, interdisciplinary education and research prepared to join us in our commitment toward prioritizing sustainable, inclusive, and anti-oppressive practices.

The Department of Kinesiology. Dr. Mark Stoutenberg, an exercise physiologist who holds an MPH and focuses his research on implementation science for physical activity and lifestyle intervention in community settings, joined Temple as Kinesiology Department Chair July 1, 2020. Under his leadership, the Department is embarking on a bold expansion in developing academic programs that align with the overall public health mission of the College. In addition to strengthening current academic programs, future programs and research initiatives will focus on the intersection of physical activity, nutrition, obesity, and chronic disease prevention. The Department places a high priority on exploring local public health inequities and working proactively with community partners to address existing health disparities.

Undergraduate programs in the department include Bachelor’s of Science degrees in Kinesiology and Exercise and Sport Science, with master’s and doctoral degrees in Integrated Exercise Physiology. In addition to offering rigorous academic programs for a diverse body of nearly 300 majors, the department is also responsible for delivering courses in anatomy and physiology, as well as physical activity, to students across the university.

The College. Devoted to an interprofessional environment for academic programming and research, the College of Public Health, a CEPH-accredited school of public health, is a constellation of academic units of public health, social work, and health profession disciplines, enrolling approximately 4,200 students. The research focus of the College is on social, behavioral, and environmental inequities, medical/health interventions, and basic science, which are supported by funding from the National Institutes of Health, National Science Foundation, Department of Defense, and other major health funders. The College has recently launched a new Center focused on Community-Engaged Research and Practice. Together, we are harnessing the collective energies of our health-related disciplines through an emerging, innovative framework for interprofessional education.

The University and City. Temple is an urban, research-intensive Carnegie R1 university located in historic and culturally rich Philadelphia, the nation’s 6th largest city. Philadelphia was ranked 3rd by the New York Times as a world tourist destination. The National Science Foundation ranks Temple among the top 100 universities in the country for research expenditures. Temple is the 6th largest provider of professional education in the nation and includes Schools of Medicine, Pharmacy, Podiatry, Law, and Dentistry and a Center for Obesity Research and Education (CORE).
