Job Summary
Within the Office for Strategy Implementation, the Director of the Caltech Center for Inclusion and Diversity (CCID) reports directly to the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Assessment and Chief Diversity Officer (AVPDEIA/CDO). The CCID Director will work in concert with the Institute's AVPDEIA/CDO to achieve Caltech's DEI goals by directing the programs and activities of the CCID. The CCID's mission is to provide education, advocacy and allyship to foster an inclusive campus community across individuals from all student, postdoctoral scholar, faculty, and staff groups.
The CCID develops and implements programming that promotes a supportive and inclusive campus environment in which individuals of all backgrounds will experience a sense of belonging, cultivate a sense of belonging for each other, and ultimately thrive personally and professionally at Caltech. Working with the AVPDEIA/CDO, the CCID also provides support for institute-wide initiatives that serve faculty, staff, postdocs, and students. For example, the CCID Director will serve on campus-wide committees, work on special projects, and develop, manage, and execute training programs.

Job Duties
  • Working closely with the Assistant Vice President for Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Assessment and Chief Diversity Officer, the CCID Director will design and direct all activities, programs, and services of the CCID with the goal of fostering inclusiveness and belonging for individuals from communities historically excluded and marginalized within STEM including: racially minoritized populations, the LGBTQIA+ community, women of all races and ethnicities, and individuals with disabilities.
  • Manage a staff of four professionals committed to advancing the goals of Caltech's DEI initiatives through their work in the CCID, while collaborating with those across campus who strive to create a more diverse and inclusive community.
  • Provide resources, best practices, and research-based guidance to the Undergraduate Deans' Office, Graduate Studies Office, Undergraduate Admissions, the Career Development Center, and other offices within Student Affairs to ensure that the student experience at Caltech is rewarding and enriching for students of all backgrounds.
  • Manage programs that promote academic success and provide personal support for students and postdocs from historically excluded and marginalized populations including: racially minoritized groups, the LGBTQIA+ community, individuals with disabilities, and women of all races/ethnicities.
  • Work in partnership with Student Faculty Programs, the Center for Teaching Learning and Outreach, and other offices to develop and implement equity-focused outreach, mentoring, and leadership initiatives to recruit students from all backgrounds and to ensure their academic and personal success.
  • Interface with external organizations and other colleges and universities on efforts that focus on supporting the academic and professional development of historically underserved populations.
  • Work in partnership with the AVPDEIA/CDO and Advancement and Alumni Relations to assist in generating program funding and engaging Caltech alumni to support DEI-related activities.

Basic Qualifications
  • A Master's Degree in a relevant STEM or social science field is required
  • Broad understanding of equity issues within higher education and in-depth knowledge of the issues facing diverse students in STEM fields, and how to overcome them most effectively.
  • Demonstrated, extensive experience in administering and managing DEI-related programs and services within higher education.
  • Demonstrated success in promoting a strong commitment to DEI programs and issues.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess, design, and implement effective programs and policies that address issues of diversity in higher education, preferably in science, engineering, and math.
  • Dynamic leadership and vision.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with other staff, administrators, faculty, and students.
  • Excellent oral and written communication abilities.
  • Financial management experience in developing departmental budgets and tracking and projecting expenditures.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Doctoral degree in relevant field is preferred
