The University of Southern Maine’s College of Science, Technology and Health seeks candidates for a 9 month academic-year tenure-track faculty appointment at the Assistant Professor rank within the Department of Exercise, Health, and Sport Sciences (EHSS).  Anticipated start date is September 1, 2021.  

The Department of EHSS offers undergraduate degrees in Athletic Training, Exercise Science, Health Sciences (four tracks) and Recreation and Leisure Studies (therapeutic recreation concentration). These programs enroll approximately 450 students and are accredited by the CAATE (AT) and CAAHEP (ES) and provide a quality learning environment through content-rich curricula, student-faculty interactions, and active learning experiences that emphasize the application of knowledge.  We live our Service Promise: Student Focused Every Day, and are looking for a faculty member who understands this promise and supports our core values of respect & care, integrity, equity and responsiveness.   For information about the Department and our degree programs please visit www.usm.maine.edu/ehss.

The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in personal health and wellness, health promotion programs and health-related research in at least two of our degree programs and within the candidate’s area of expertise.  We are currently exploring enhancing our curriculum in health sciences to prepare students for the Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) examination. Tenure-track faculty typically teach nine credit hours (3 courses) per academic semester.  The selected candidate will also conduct, present and publish scholarly work in state, regional and national forums, seek external funding to support scholarly interests, and provide service (including advising) to the department, college, university, community and profession.

The maximum salary approved for this position is approximately $60,000 for the 9-month academic year. Required qualifications:  A completed Doctorate in Health Sciences, Public Health, or a related field from an accredited university. Candidates who have yet to complete the doctorate will be considered but the terminal degree must be completed by the position’s start date.

Preferred qualifications: Evidence of scholarly productivity, external funding to support scholarly interests, university level teaching experience, and undergraduate student advising.
