As a member of the library faculty, the Health Sciences Librarian focuses on collaboration with health sciences faculty to promote information and data literacy through instructional services and resources and research support to graduate and undergraduate students in those programs. This 12-month convertible clinical faculty appointment reports to the Director of Research & Instructional Services (RIS). The librarian provides leadership for collection development and management in the health sciences and actively monitors library resource program needs and evolving trends. As a member of RIS, the health sciences librarian also provides general research assistance and works to enhance the user experience. 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities, 

  • Experience searching health sciences, nursing and/or biomedical literature. 
    • Content knowledge related to the health sciences, such as familiarity with common terminology. 
    • Awareness of research methods and publication types in the health sciences and relative strength of evidence of different publication types. 
    • Ability to read and assess health sciences literature in order to identify high-quality evidence-based research publications to fulfill research and clinical evidence queries. 
    • Experience providing instruction or delivering presentations.  
    • Experience working collaboratively and independently with varied and diverse groups. Evidence of skills needed to foster new connections and build relationships.   
    • Excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, including the ability to actively listen, understand and articulate user needs.  
    • Evidence of ability to organize, prioritize, and manage multiple tasks in a dynamic environment.  
    • Evidence of ability to communicate and interact effectively with diverse populations.  
    • Demonstrated ability to work independently and in a team environment.   
    • Ability and willingness to learn new library and instructional technologies & platforms.   

Required Qualifications, 

  • Master’s degree in information and/or library science from an ALA-accredited program, or equivalent degree if earned outside the U.S. or Canada.  Degree must be awarded by June 1, 2021. 
    • Experience searching relevant health science databases; must include PubMed and CINAHL.  
    • Some content knowledge in the health sciences (such as terminology and awareness of specialty areas/programs). Willingness to continue building content knowledge. 
    • Experience providing in-person or online reference service.  
    • Experience providing reference and/or instruction for relevant health sciences disciplines. 

 

Preferred Qualifications, 

  • Experience performing systematic reviews, meta-analyses, or related research projects.  
    • At least two years of experience in information literacy skills in an academic or special library.  
    • At least one year of experience with current web, instructional, and productivity technologies (e.g., LibGuides; Zoom, WebEx, GoToMeeting; D2L, Blackboard, Canvas; Microsoft Office).
