Organizational Unit Overview
The College of Engineering and Technology is comprised of the
departments of Computer Science, Construction Management,
Engineering, and Technology Systems. Faculty and /staff in the
College provide high-quality graduate and undergraduate degree
opportunities and research and service programs that enable
students to achieve their career goals and that promote a strong,
sustainable future for our region. The Computer Science department
has twelve tenured or tenuretrack positions and also employs a
fixed-term and a few adjunct instructors. Current areas of research
in the department include software engineering, data management and
mining, artificial intelligence, machine learning, cognitive
computing, information retrieval, programming languages, and
computer science education. In 2017, the department received a $2
million NSF grant to revolutionize the professional formation of
computer scientists and software engineers.
The department is also partnering with the College of Education on a $1 million NSF grant as part of the “Computer Science for All" initiative, focusing on activity at the middle school level. The department offers five degree programs: a Bachelor of Science degree in Computer Science, a Bachelor of Science degree in Software Engineering, and Master’s degrees in Computer Science, Data Science, and Software Engineering. Approximately 500 undergraduate and 80 graduate students are enrolled in these programs.
Job Duties
Teach courses
as assigned. Maintain office hours as designated by the Chair of
the department. Collect course assessment data for continuous
process improvement and program accreditation. Mentor undergraduate
students. Participate in department undergraduate student
recruitment and student engagement activities. Contribute service
to the department and the College of Engineering and Technology.
Engage in professional development activities. Successful candidate
will be expected to commit to high-quality teaching and active
engagement with undergraduate students. The position requires
teaching primarily undergraduate courses in the B.S. in Software
Engineering program.
Minimum
Education/Experience
A Ph.D. degree
in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a closely related
discipline is required for Teaching Assistant Professor. Applicants
with an M.S. degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a
closely related discipline will be considered as Teaching
Instructor.
Preferred Experience, Skills,
Training/Education
Candidates with
prior teaching, research, or relevant industry experience will be
given preference.
