GENERAL INFORMATION: John Tyler Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. RESPONSIBILITIES: John Tyler Community College is seeking to hire a twelve-month full time, faculty position for Computer Science. The successful candidate will teach a full range of courses to include Introduction to Computer Science, Computer Science I, Computer Science II, Computer Organization, and Discrete Structures in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online (synchronous and asynchronous) formats. Responsibilities include teaching up to the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester and having teaching responsibilities during summer months. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of online, day, and evening classes. Selected applicant will serve as the program lead and actively participate in course/program development, assessment, advising students, partnering with transfer institutions, working with industry groups, and serving on division and college committees.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate-level credits in Computer Science. College level teaching experience and/or relevant work experience. Demonstrated ability to effectively use instructional technologies. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. Willingness to adopt and teach new and emerging technologies and commitment to meeting the needs of and providing instruction to diverse populations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check will be required. Preferred qualifications: Significant graduate coursework in math, engineering, or information technology. Prior community college teaching experience. Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, distance-learning instruction and/or course development.
