GENERAL INFORMATION: John Tyler Community College is a two-year public institution of higher education and one of the largest of the 23 community colleges in Virginia. RESPONSIBILITIES: John Tyler Community College is seeking to hire a twelve-month full time, faculty position for Information Technology. The successful candidate will teach a full range of information technology courses in face-to-face, hybrid, and/or online (synchronous and asynchronous) formats. Information technology courses range from introductory courses to more advanced courses in networking, cybersecurity, cloud computing, and/or programming. Full-time responsibilities include teaching the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester. Teaching assignments may include a mixture of online, day, and evening classes. The successful applicant will actively participate in course/program development, assessment, advising students, and serving on division and college committees. IT faculty are also expected to work with local employers and government officials to ensure students obtain the skills needed to enter the IT workforce.
QUALIFICATIONS: Required: Bachelor’s degree in information technology with at least 2 years of IT work experience. Experience in training, conducting workshops, and/or teaching IT concepts. Excellent interpersonal, analytical, and oral/written communication skills. Willingness to adopt and teach new and emerging IT technologies. Experience working with industry partners. Commitment to meeting the needs of and providing instruction to diverse populations. Successful completion and passing of a criminal background check will be required.
Preferred qualifications: Master’s degree with a minimum of 18 graduate-level credits in information technology. Prior community college teaching experience. Completion of several industry-related credentials related to IT and emerging technologies. Demonstrated experience in curriculum development, distance-learning instruction and/or course development.
