The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver (DU) invites applications for a Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor in the Curriculum and Instruction (C&I) Program within the Department of Teaching and Learning Sciences (TLS) beginning Summer 2021. This is a benefited, non-tenure track, full-time, 12-month clinical faculty position. As a full-time TLS faculty member, the Clinical Assistant/Associate Professor will participate in all faculty activities such as advising students, participating in admissions activities, and attending department meetings. It is also expected that the successful candidate will assume the position of Director of Teacher Education Program (TEP) within the C&I Program, which may include a reduced teaching load in recognition of the time required for this administrative work.

Position Summary

Major areas of study represented in TLS are Teacher Education (Elementary, Secondary, K-12 Special Education); Curriculum and Instruction (Culturally and Linguistically Diverse Education, Math, Gifted Education, Special Education, Curriculum Studies); Early Childhood Special Education; and School Psychology. We offer Masters, Educational Specialist, and Doctor of Education and Philosophy degrees. The University, through its faculty, shall engage in a variety of professional functions, such as teaching, scholarly research and/or creative activity, shared governance, and professional/public service. The relative priority of these functions carried out by colleges, schools, divisions, departments, centers, and individual faculty members should and does vary.

Our Teacher Educator Program (TEP) is accredited by the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) and Colorado Department of Education. It was ranked 18th in the US News and World Report in 2019. The roles and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Teach graduate level courses.
  • Supervise the accreditation, coordination, and scheduling of the TEP during the four academic quarters (fall, winter, spring, and summer).
  • Maintain and continuously improve program evaluation.
  • Advise TEP students and move to probation and dismissal if needed.
  • Hire, train, and oversee adjunct professors.
  • Revise the TEP curriculum map as needed.
  • Monitor state and national policies related to teacher education.
  • Work collaboratively with the TEP field work coordinator and C&I/MCE faculty to accomplish program goals.
  • Collaborate with partner schools, community partners, and state agencies.
  • Manage recruitment, admissions events, retention, and orientation of TEP with the TLS Department Chair and other MCE entities.
  • Perform Research and Service activities in accordance with the Clinical Faculty Appointment and Promotion Guidelines.
  • Maintain and grow the TEPs commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Required Qualifications

  • Doctoral degree in Education (PhD or EdD) with an emphasis in Curriculum and Instruction, Teacher Education, Teaching and Learning Sciences, or ESL/Bilingual Education or related area by September 1, 2021.
  • Background and teaching experience in pre-service teacher education and/or in-service teacher professional development.
  • Prior teaching experience in US K-12 schools with diverse student populations.
  • Leadership experience in academic, community, non-profit or professional organizations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prior experience in curricular alignment, accreditation activities, and teacher evaluation.
  • Prior teaching experience in higher education.
  • Expertise in culturally and linguistically diverse education and social justice.
  • Expertise in content areas such as literacy, STEM and/or bilingual education.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $75,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The University may ultimately pay more or less than the posted compensation range. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
