Los Angeles Vally College invites applications for the position of a full-time tenure track Computer Science Instructor.  The ideal candidate is a dynamic instructor with the ability to teach across Computer Science, Information Technology, and Computer Programming courses.  The assignment involves curriculum development and evaluation, online course development, attendance at department and discipline meetings, professional activities, and college committee work.  Instruction may include day, evening, online, off-campus, and Saturday courses.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

Master’s in computer science or computer engineering. OR

Bachelor’s in either of the above AND Master’s in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering. OR

Bachelor’s in engineering AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration. OR

Bachelor’s in mathematics AND Master’s in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration. OR

Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND Master’s degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems.


DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS 

  • At least four years of work experience in computer programming, mobile application development, web script writing, and server-side coding;
  • Teaching experience at the postsecondary education level in multiple programming languages and scripts, including object-oriented and machine and high-level languages such as Assembler, Java, Python, JavaScript, C++, C#, PHP, Ruby, ASP.net, and HTML;
  • Prior experience in computer hardware and operating systems, IoT, VMWare, AI, and Robotics;
  • Prior experience with cloud computing, cyber and cloud security, and information compliance;
  • Prior experience in data mining, data warehousing, and big data analytics;
  • Prior working experience in network and data base programming development;
  • Experience in the development and assessment of student learning outcomes;
  • Demonstrated sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, cultural, socioeconomic, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students;
  • Ability to communicate professionally with students, classified staff, faculty, stakeholders, industry partners and administration;
  • Initiative and ability to develop new courses/programs and market current programs to the community as well as business and industry;
  • Ability to communicate professionally and work collegially within the department as well as the campus community;
  • Demonstrated enthusiasm and interest in working collaboratively with colleagues of multiple departments and in serving on college committees in a shared governance organization;
  • Experience in teaching online classes, curriculum development, and accreditation process;
  • Ability to write proposals and coordinate grants;
  • Demonstrated certification in Blackboard, Canvas or Course Compass or other online learning platforms

SALARY AND BENEFITS

The current starting range is from $59,140 to $92,070 for the ten-month academic year depending on education and experience. The Ph.D. differential is $3,730 per academic year.  The district provides an excellent benefits package including medical, vision, dental, and life insurance to the employee and eligible dependents.
