Emory & Henry College welcomes applicants for the position of Visiting Assistant Director of Bands and Assistant Professor of Music.  This position will report to the Director of Bands and will assist in the recruitment and instruction for the athletic bands and other teaching assignments in music, music education and applied lessons per the candidate’s qualifications. 

 

Essential Duties:

    Serve as the Assistant Director of the Marching Band and Symphonic Band with shared responsibilities for coordination of instruction.  This includes assisting with the planning and carrying out of daily operations of the Instrumental Ensembles.  Duties may require, but are not limited to music preparation, instruction, and ensemble logistics. Serve as coordinator and director of the Sixth Man Band, the pep band for the basketball teams at Emory & Henry. Serve as a director of select chamber ensembles during the fall and spring semester and conductor of the spring concert band. This includes planning and carrying out of the daily operation of the assigned ensemble, music preparation and instruction. Play a significant role in student recruitment and alumni outreach in cooperation with department & public relations director. Teach applied lessons in the candidates area of expertise. Oversee the Music Education curriculum and teach within the department as well as within the general curriculum of the college.

Essential Qualifications: 

    Master’s Degree required, Doctorate preferred. Large ensemble conducting and rehearsal experience is required.   Public school and/or college teaching experience preferred. Documented history of music arranging and/or drill instruction Success in recruitment and development of a collegiate or high school band program The ability to effectively communicate with students, peers, and alumni is an important aspect of this position.
