Visiting Assistant Professor of English and Writing

The Department of English and Writing within the College of Arts and Letters at the University of Tampa is pleased to invite applications for a one-year position as Visiting Assistant Professor of English and Writing to begin in August 2021.

The University of Tampa is a medium-sized, comprehensive, residentially-based private institution of 9,200 undergraduate and graduate students.  The University is ideally situated on a beautiful 110-acre campus next to the Hillsborough River, adjacent to Tampa's dynamic central business district, which is a growing, vibrant, diverse metropolitan area.  UT reflects this vibrancy; with 20 consecutive years of enrollment growth UT boasts 229 student organizations, a multicultural student body from 50 states and 140 countries, and "Top Tier" ranking in U.S. News & World Report.

Our vibrant and growing Academic Writing (AWR) Program welcomes applicants with experience and enthusiasm for teaching academic writing to students with diverse and international backgrounds. The ideal candidate will be a dedicated teacher with demonstrable commitment to Academic Writing, curriculum development, and writing pedagogy. The on-campus, in-person teaching load will be 24 credit hours per year, typically across six four-hour courses. Courses will be in the AWR program, with possible opportunities in literature, creative writing, or publishing depending on experience. Area of specialization is open, but candidates with research programs in African American literature are especially encouraged to apply. In addition to teaching duties, successful candidates will contribute to the department and by participating in curricular initiatives, taking part in committee work, and developing collegial exchanges with peers.

The successful candidate will have a Ph.D. in English or related field; college- or university-level experience teaching Academic Writing; and demonstrated scholarly/professional activity.
