Job Description

Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, is seeking a Cybersecurity and Network Technology faculty member to fill a position starting January 2023. The College is seeking an enthusiastic and dedicated teacher who possesses a high degree of professionalism, a strong commitment to students, and the ability to motivate and educate in an engaging manner. This position is part of a collective bargaining unit.

Since 2004, Montgomery College has been a regional leader in the delivery of cybersecurity and networking education. The College offers a Cybersecurity degree and an Advanced Network Security Certificate, as well as non-credit courses in cybersecurity. The successful candidate will be committed to teaching in a multi-cultural student-focused two-year institution consisting of students with diverse learning abilities. Important qualities expected in the candidate include strong verbal and written communication skills, experience working with students of different backgrounds, and a commitment to the community college mission.

Duties include but are not limited to:
  • Teaching courses related to Cybersecurity and Networking a minimum of 30 semester hours per academic year.
  • Understanding of and commitment to student success
  • Advising and tutoring students.
  • Participating in student club activities.
  • Mentoring students.
  • Being an effective student advocate, particularly for those students transferring to 4-year institutions.
  • Advising students about transfer opportunities.
  • Proactively arranging for scholarship/ research or internship opportunities.
  • Teaching a varied schedule that may include day, night, early morning, weekend and/or accelerated sections. Opportunities may exist for teaching summer classes.
  • While the home campus will be Germantown, successful candidate is expected to engage in cross campus teaching (e.g. Rockville and TPSS) when needed and assigned.
  • Serving on, or leading, department, discipline, campus and college committees.
  • Pursuing continuous professional development and participating in professional organizations and activities.
  • Delivering assigned courses in accordance with College catalog descriptions, Master course syllabi, and any stipulations stated by the College and the Cybersecurity program.
  • Maintaining standards of teaching that are consistent with the high standards expected by the College and the Cybersecurity department.
Faculty member must be able to teach a wide range of introductory and advanced courses including, but not limited to:
  • Network Security (CompTIA Security+)
  • Defending the Network
  • Attacker Tools and Techniques
  • Digital Forensics
  • Incident Response
  • Wireless Security
  • Cybersecurity Capstone (ISC2 CISSP)
  • Introduction to Scripting
  • Unix/Linux System Administration
  • Cloud Computing
Required Qualifications:
  • A Master’s Degree or higher in Computer Science or closely related field, or a Master’s Degree or higher in any discipline with 5 years of industry experience in cybersecurity field.
  • Teaching experience
  • Experience designing and/or setting up hands-on labs.
  • Knowledge of Linux, Windows (client and server) environments, firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, penetration testing, vulnerability assessment, wireless security, incident response, and/or digital forensics.
  • Proficiency with scripting languages.
  • Access to a personal computer with virus protection that can connect to the internet outside of the work location (i.e., office, classroom, college campus). Montgomery College (MC) provides an MC e-mail account and access to the learning platform, password-protected faculty sections of the website, college listservs, and other faculty communications tools.
  • Eligible applicants must currently be authorized to work in the United States and not require employer visa sponsorship.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Hold a CompTIA Security+ and other professional certifications (i.e. CISSP, CEH, other security industry certifications, CompTIA Cloud+ or compatible one from major cloud providers such as AWS, Microsoft Azure, Google, IBM or Oracle).
  • At least two semesters of recent full-time or equivalent experience teaching
  • Teaching in a distance-learning environment.
  • Proficiency with Java, C++, Python, Discrete Structures, Data Structures.
  • Proficiency with Cloud Computing, systems analysis and design, theory of algorithms, operating systems.
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development.
Hiring Range: $62,319 to $91,218.
