Essential Responsibilities
70%
1. Assure that all children are supervised within sight and sound at all times.
2. In partnership with parents, implement an age appropriate, success oriented, developmentally appropriate center-based program, using the Early Head Start curriculum.
3. Integrate all aspects of Early Head Start Performance Standards, Illinois day care regulations, and NAEYC accreditation standards into the schedule and curriculum for each child.
4. Eat with and assist children in development of social and self-help skills, and sound nutritional practices. Use and teach children Family Style Meal Service.
5. Integrate previous plans in place for the child ( IFSP, nutrition, behavior) into the daily plan and curriculum for that child.
6. Work as a collaborative team to design an environment and activities designed to meet the needs of assigned children.
7. Meet the needs of individual children while remaining responsive and aware of group needs.
8. Along with co-teachers maintain adult/child ratio.
9. Under the supervision of co-teachers perform screenings, assessments, child goals, parent teacher conferences, and home visits.
10. Follow and maintain daily routine and schedule while remaining flexible to individual factors that may alter same. Maintain classroom management.
11. Create a warm and accepting environment and atmosphere for children, parents, families, volunteers, community representatives and staff.
12. Change diapers as needed for any children assigned to your group.
13. Ensure the safety of the children in assigned group, inspecting indoor and outdoor toys and equipment daily.
14. Abide by program philosophies on parent involvement and parent participation. Actively participate in parent involvement activities. Encourage parent involvement and parent participation to include, but not be limited to, face-to-face, telephone and written contacts. Communicate daily with parents, both verbally and in writing.

1. Perform required child screenings on assigned children within 45 days of enrollment and report findings to the parent and Education Director.
2. Perform ongoing child observations and assessments and use the information to design curriculum and meet the development needs of assigned children.
3. Perform a minimum of two home visits and two parent teacher conferences per year.
4. Fills in for Infant/Toddler/Two’s teacher during prolonged absences and meets all requirements for EHS .

5. Report any health needs of assigned children to the Health Services Coordinator.
6. Report any social service or crisis needs of the child or family to the Family Services Specialist within 24 hours.
7. Work with the Family Service Specialist to assist in setting goals with the family.
8. Perform all required documentation and reports and submit in a timely manner.
9. Perform home visits with assigned children and parents as directed by supervisor.
10. Perform at least two yearly parent conferences with assigned children.
11. Assists with questions and problems courteously and promptly.

12. Comply with regulatory health requirements, including: a pre-employment physical with lift test, proof of MMR and DTAP immunization, initial TB test and annual physical exam.
13. Attend all meetings and training as required.
14. Adhere to all plans, policies and procedures of Governors State University, Family Development Center and Early Head Start.
15. Attend other related meetings and training as requested.
16. Proactive Leader – Works well without close supervision and demonstrates initiative. Minimum Qualifications
• High School Diploma
• AA in Early Childhood Education, Early Childhood Special Education, or Child Development with at least eighteen semester hours in early childhood education or 60 college credits with 30 college credits in child development, early childhood education, or early childhood education that encompasses the following: observing, documenting, and assessing young children; teaching and learning; and professional practices and development or
• Child Development Associate Credential awarded by the Council for Professional Recognition or NAEYC defined equivalent:
• As of September 30, 2017 all teachers and assistants and aides are required to have an Illinois Early Childhood Education Credential Level 1 Credential Preferred Qualifications
• 3 years of experience in an Early Head Start Classroom
• Gateways Level 3 Infant/Toddler Credential

This is a temporary assignment which will end when funding or hours is exhausted. Employees in this position performs a variety of duties as assigned by their supervisor and outlined above. Pay rate is $17 per hour.

Must be able to provide proof of full COVID -19 vaccination upon hire.
