Multicultural Education Director

Job Description

The Multicultural Education Director assists faculty, staff, students, and administrators create an environment conducive to diversity; works with academic departments to create a plan for multicultural and pluralistic education.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
•Coordinates and assesses workshops, including programs to enhance gender equality and LGBT and racial inclusion, in order to promote a deeper understanding of various cultures and heritages.
•Coordinates with campus units to improve the retention and graduation rates of underrepresented student
•Assists and educates students in the exploration of various cultures as they transition to the college setting.
•Collaborate with various campus constituencies to facilitate diverse educational programs and activities for students, faculty, staff and the St. Joseph Community.
•Serve as a resource, referral, and advocate to students of color assisting with retention and recruitment efforts.
•Serve as advisor to the President on issues of diversity and inclusion.
•Directly advises certain multicultural related student organizations: Black Student Union, Gender and Sexuality Alliance, etc.
•Hire, train and supervise student program assistants & student employees.
•Develop and manage the Center for Multicultural Education and Interfaith Space, including budget, upkeep, and publicity.
•Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Required Qualifications

Education:
Bachelor’s degree in multicultural or higher education

Experience: Minimum one year of experience in either multicultural education or retention services;

OR an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above.

Preferred Qualifications

Masters’ degree in multicultural or higher education strongly preferred

•Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
