Job Description:

BASIC FUNCTION:

  • The Assistant Vice President of Development & Planned Giving is responsible for the design, direction, and management of a major gift and planned giving program in support of the funding priorities of the University.
  • The AVP will oversee the major gift program, as well as build a proactive planned giving program that markets planned and blended gifts as a vehicle for major gifts. Additionally, the AVP will support the CAO in the development of plans for Parent Fundraising and Corporate and Foundation Fundraising and will supervise any future fundraisers for these areas.
  • The AVP will work closely with the CAO and Director of Major Gifts on training and support of the major gift staff members, including development of metrics that ensure success. As part of the Advancement leadership, this position will work with other directors to meet the goals of the division.
  • The AVP will also identify, cultivate, solicit and steward a portfolio of prospective and current donors with a significant focus on planned giving prospects; and is responsible for managing a comprehensive marketing communications plan and the stewardship of the university's planned giving society (The Ochre Court Society).


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • As a major and planned gift officer, the AVP will manage a personal portfolio of up to 150 individual prospects and donors and will be responsible for achieving revenue and engagement targets for the portfolio as agreed upon annually with the CAO.
  • As the lead and manager of a comprehensive major and planned giving program, the AVP will:
  • Manage a team of 2 frontline fundraisers responsible for raising unrestricted and restricted funding from individual donors and family foundations with capacity to make contributions of $50,000 and above. Provide ongoing coaching, inspiration training, and support; establish clear metrics and accountability for team members; and ensure an atmosphere that aligns with Mercy values.
  • Design and launch a comprehensive planned giving program which includes setting program goals, managing relationships with individuals in the Ochre Court Society, and lead marketing and education efforts internally and externally.
  • Participate in the design and oversee the implementation of plans that will grow revenue from Corporations and Foundations as well as from Parents.
  • In consultation with the CAO, evaluate and set annual fundraising projections, monitor progress, and adjust plans as needed to meet goals.
  • Influence the development of individual fundraising strategies for the institution's top solicitors, including the President, Chancellor, Trustees and senior executives.
  • Apply data analytics and decision-making tools to evaluate fundraising efforts; deploy quality and process improvement techniques to optimize fundraising effectiveness, sustain high-level support, and grow the major gift fundraising levels.
  • Research, identify, and contact planned giving prospects. Conduct 15 prospect and donor meetings per month.
  • In partnership with Advancement Operations, redesign and activate a recognition program for planned giving donors. Inviting their inclusion in the Ochre Court Society and in the upcoming campaign.
  • Work with vendors to develop and manage the use and production of planned giving marketing materials for a targeted audience.
  • Collaborate with Finance Office to establish protocols and to coordinate life income gift management and donor estate administration.

Requirements:
  • Must have a minimum of 10+years of experience planned and major giving and with a range of fundraising responsibilities that include management or supervision of fundraising processes
  • Must have experience closing planned and major gifts at the 6-7 figure level
  • Must have a strong knowledge base of all aspects of planned giving and blended gift fundraising
  • Must have knowledge of planned giving IRS rules and regulations
  • Proven ability to mentor and collaborate with fellow staff
  • Exceptional interpersonal, organizational, and verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to be effective at engaging with all levels of the University
  • Demonstrated ability to establish creditability and confidence with donors and prospective donors
  • Ability to work with ethnically, culturally, and socially diverse students, staff, faculty, and other constituencies
  • Must have the flexibility and willingness to assume new tasks and special projects
  • Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results
  • Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions
  • Must have strong technology skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint) and use of PG Calc or other planned giving software


WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Willingness to travel as a representative of the University
  • Requires occasional nights and/or weekend work
