Hazardous Materials Abatement Coordinator
Location: Moscow

Position Summary:
Under general direction, coordinates and operates the university's Hazardous Materials Abatement Program by: removing hazardous building materials containing asbestos or lead and decontaminating facilities and building systems contaminated with bio-hazards and other hazardous materials and chemicals; ensuring that hazardous materials are abated and disposed of safely and in accordance with procedures established by the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Idaho Department of Labor and Safety (IDLS) and Center for Disease Control (CDC).
Minimum Qualifications:
- 2 years experience working with hazardous building materials , such as asbestos, lead, mold and abatement of these materials.
- Must have experience removing and disposing of asbestos, mold, lead based paint, and other hazardous materials from occupied buildings.
- Must have working level experience with plumbing, electrical, HVAC, flooring and ceiling systems, and steam heating systems.
- Must have experience using air strategy techniques associated with space isolation, negative air pressure containment, and decontamination facilities, as well as the dangers associated with the abatement and disposal of hazardous materials.
- Must have experience reading and interpreting blueprints and specifications.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in related field OR equivalent combination of education and/or experience totaling 4 years.
- Certification as an Asbestos Building Supervisor.
- Experience as a Journey Level Carpenter.
- Experience delivering safety courses related to OSHA, EPA, and DOT level compliance.
- OSHA 1910.120 40 hr HazWoper certification.
- Certified in CPR/1st Aid.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- Must have the physical ability to successfully complete a physical examination and respirator fit test prior to employment; must be a non smoker due to the increased susceptibility caused by the combination of smoking and asbestos exposure; regulatory guidelines require that you must have not been a smoker for the past two years.
- Physical ability to: bend, stoop and climb ladders; lift and/or otherwise move approximately 70 pounds.
Work in inclement weather and extreme heat and participate in a medical surveillance program.
