Overview

Employment Status: Full-time, At-Will, "Exempt" position, included in the Management Personnel Plan (MPP).

Work Schedule: Generally, Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. (May required to work nights and weekends pending operational needs).

Department Info
The Office of Strategic Technology Initiatives (OSTI) provides support for technology initiatives and project management at CSUSB. OSTI provides technology solution consulting and has a comprehensive toolkit to help CSUSB manage projects successfully. In addition, OSTI provides either hands on or consultative project management services to empower world-class technology solutions.

Typical Activities
Job Summary
As the Director of Strategic Technology Initiatives, you will serve as the leader for CSUSB's Project Management Office, provide leadership for strategic and tactical technology initiatives, and transform business operations across campus through the intersection of business objectives and technology opportunities. You will manage all aspects of customer implementation projects from inception through project closure, and work in coordination with ongoing Digital Transformation efforts.
Under the general direction of the VP & CIO for Information technology Services, you will shape the direction of ITS to align with the strategic priorities of the university and empower change in business processes. You will focus on strategic objectives and drive measurable improvements.
The following responsibilities include:

  • Providing Leadership and Mentorship to ITS Project Liaisons.
  • Developing standardized project management methodologies within ITS by
  • collaboratively developing standard project templates and artifacts
  • Providing regular coaching for all project managers and team members.
  • Assisting in the development of project plans, schedules, status reports and
  • deliverables for multiple strategic technology projects.
  • Ensuring project tasks, timelines, scope, and resources are properly defined and maintained.
  • Forecasting project resource, scope, and schedule needs.
  • Provide leadership to effective assessment of all ITS projects and initiatives
The incumbent will work collaboratively with ITS staff and administrators to provide project management services to the Division and the campus. This includes working collaboratively with project managers and teams to promote standard project management methodologies and artifacts. The incumbent will serve as the central point of contact for project status reporting to all stakeholders. And perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
  • Three (3) or more years of experience in direct supervision of staff.
  • Two (2) or more years of experience in IT-related project development and management in a complex organization.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Enterprise IT-related project management experience is preferred.
  • Experience in Higher Education is preferred.
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is desired.
  • ITIL (Foundation or higher) certification is preferred.
  • Must have leadership and mentoring skills.

  • Ability to make timely informed decisions that take into account facts, goals, constraints, and risks.
  • Ability to apply creative and innovative thinking to develop fresh ideas and solutions to workplace challenges.
  • Ability to write and implement policies, procedures, standards, and guidelines.

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily before any candidate can be offered a position with the CSU.
