Lab Manager I-Emergency Medical Services

Position Category: Staff - Full-Time

Summary:
Under the direction of the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Programs Director, the EMS Lab Manager functions in a supporting role to faculty in meeting students' needs of the practical or hands-on education throughout the EMS Programs. Responsibilities include the set-up and takedown of labs, the cleaning, maintenance, and operation of EMS simulation manikins, skill training props, supplies and equipment. Perform train-the-trainer sessions with faculty. Manages program items issued to students including tablets, texts, Personal Protection Equipment, supplies and other training equipment (this includes checking out, checking in and rehab when necessary). Procures both durable and expendable items through budget management and monitoring and updating student fees. Responsible for coordinating national practical exams, including lab space, equipment set-up, and actor (simulated patient) needs. Assists with EMS course administration and complete reports and audits as needed. Performs student instruction of EMS skills as scheduled. Required Qualifications:
Graduation from a regionally accredited institution with a bachelors degree in Emergency Services, Emergency Medical Services, or a similar field. A combination of education and full-time work experience in a related field totaling a minimum of six years may also be considered.

Licenses or Certifications:
a) Advanced EMT/ or Paramedic licensure through Utah BEMS. (applicants not possessing Utah certification will be given 6 months to complete this requirement)
b) EMS Instructor certification through Utah BEMS. (applicants not possessing Utah certification will be given 6 months to complete this requirement)


Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge:
  • Working knowledge of EMS skills & lab education practices
  • EMS equipment and latest trends
  • EMS activities and certification requirements for both state and national organizations

Skills:
  • EMS training and educational practices
  • Inventory control
  • Procurement and Purchasing
  • Computer proficiency (Excel, MS Word, instructor scheduling platform)

Abilities:
  • Plan, coordinate and implement EMS Program equipment requirements
  • Excellence in collaborative communication processes
  • Prioritize tasks and assignments
  • Adapt to changes in EMS educational standards and technology
  • Keep materials up-to-date and purchase new materials as needed
  • Communicate effectively verbally and in writing with faculty and students


Preferred Qualifications:
Utah BEMS Course Coordinator


Physical Requirements:
Lifting; raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. 10 - 25 pounds
