Duties and Responsibilities
The Department of Social Sciences at Fairmont State University seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor position in World History. The successful candidate will be required to teach the university's World Civilization survey courses as well as advanced history electives in their field of study. Preference will be given to candidates who can offer courses in the history of one or more of the following areas: Africa, Asia, Middle East, or Latin America. The ability to teach "The Historian's Craft," the program's writing-intensive course for history majors, will be viewed favorably as well. The expected teaching load is four classes per semester. Teaching experience at the college level is essential as is demonstrated excellence in the classroom. Service requirements will include committee work, advising history majors, and program assessment. Applicants must have their Ph.D. in History in hand by August 2021.

Instruction and evaluation; student advising; committee assignments; faculty meetings; consultation; in-service programs; preparation for teaching; professional and scholarly development; research; performs other appropriate duties as assigned and as necessary; prepares and delivers instruction in all formats and methodologies as assigned and as necessary; attends institutional events and represents work department, school or college at such events; assists in student recruiting process and events for institution and/or work unit; adheres to and complies with all relevant federal, state and local laws; abides by Board of Governors and HEPC policies and rules, as relevant and appropriate; if assigned a State purchasing card, abides by all purchasing rules and provisions and reports/balances account as required or directed; adheres to all institutional policies and guidelines, including the provisions of the employee's relevant employee handbook; adheres to and complies with relevant provisions of the WV State Ethics Act; adheres to the provisions of FERPA; follows, adheres to and abides by all established State and University travel policies; adheres to all safety rules and provisions; reports any personal accidents/injuries or accidents/injuries of assigned staff to HR by end of work day or work shift; acknowledges responsibility as a mandatory reporter and reports all incidents under Title IX and Title VII of the United States Code to the proper Fairmont State University personnel; abides by the employee-reporting provisions of the FMLA and ADA; completes all assigned employee training and completes all required performance evaluations timely, completely and accurately.
