The Morgridge College of Education (MCE) at the University of Denver (DU) is recruiting for multiple Clinical Assistant Professors in School Counseling (12-month appointment, 2-year term, renewable) for the 2021-22 academic year in the Department of Counseling Psychology. Located in the city of Denver, DU is the oldest and largest independent university in the Rocky Mountain Region with high research activity and enrolls approximately 14,000 students in its undergraduate, graduate, and professional preparation programs. Denver is quickly becoming one of the most ethnically diverse cities in the U.S. Census data show that Denver's population includes 11.1% Black or African American, 31.7% Hispanic or Latino, 2.8% Asian American, and approximately 1% Native American residents. The Department of Counseling Psychology’s philosophy and mission are aligned with the MCE vision to train global leaders who employ innovative and effective approaches to advance learning throughout the lifespan, educational change, and social equity. Our programs prepare ethical, collaborative practitioners who can apply counseling principles to promote learning and development with diverse clients and communities. The PhD program is accredited by the American Psychological Association (APA) and the Clinical Mental Health Concentration of the MA program is accredited by the Masters in Psychology and Counseling Accreditation Council (MPCAC). The School Counseling MA program has been developed to align with CACREP accreditation standards. The program has submitted the initial self-study to CACREP for review and is currently awaiting the next steps in the accreditation process.

Position Summary

We seek candidates with a proven record of excellence in teaching, supervision, and clinical work, as well as individuals who value our mission of serving the public good and are committed to the University’s values around diversity, equity, and inclusion. The Clinical Assistant Professor in School Counseling will require an innovative and critical thinker who is capable of working within a dynamic environment. This position will be primarily focused on teaching online classes in the School Counseling MA program (i.e., SchoolCounseling@Denver), with additional responsibilities related to scholarship and service. Specific responsibilities include: developing and designing courses for the online master’s program in school counseling as needed; teaching online courses in school counseling; and student advising. While the primary mode of instruction will be online, the program prefers this position to be on ground (remote options may be negotiable), located within the Morgridge College of Education in Denver, CO.

Required Qualifications

  • Earned doctorate in counselor education, or related field, from a CACREP accredited program by start date, OR, earned doctorate from a non-CACREP program and at least one full academic year of experience as a full-time faculty member in a counselor education program prior to July 1, 2013.
  • Prior experience in teaching, research, and leadership.
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to and professional experience with diverse populations.
  • Evidence of or potential for scholarship commensurate with clinical faculty expectations.
  • Minimum of 2 years of equivalent experience working with a P-12 population.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Online teaching experience at the graduate level.
  • Certified/Licensed School Counselor.
  • Experience as a school counselor.
  • Experience in supervision.
  • Knowledge of the CACREP accreditation process.

Salary Grade Number
The salary grade for the position is UC.

Salary Range
The salary range for this position is $72,000 - $75,000.

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
