Job Description

The International Program Administrator is a new strategic position within the Department of Engineering Education. This position will manage the department's international activities and provide support with experiential learning initiatives. The Rising Sophomore Abroad Program (RSAP) has historically been one of the largest study abroad programs at Virginia Tech with over 150 students typically enrolled each year. The program prepares students to work in multicultural environments and develop global engineering competencies. The individual will report to the faculty in charge of the RSAP program, and the Business Manager, and work closely with the Global Education Office and travel vendors. Responsibilities include: Manage administrative and logistical aspects of the RSAP Program (see www.enge.vt.edu/undergraduate/RSAP), providing strategic support for expanding and enhancing program offerings. Work in consultation with departmental personnel to lead the following aspects of the study abroad program: recruitment, promotion, selection, application management, recommending scholarship awards, travel logistical planning in consultation with third party providers, coordination of faculty and graduate student personnel, program budgeting, facilitating travel payments and reimbursements, and liaison with risk management. The position serves as the central point of contact for all individuals involved with the RSAP program and ensures that all participants are aware of the program timeline and requirements and carry out their program related activities in a timely and policy compliant way. Liaise and work collaboratively with appropriate university offices, especially the Global Education Office. It is expected that the candidate will be involved in one RSAP international module (including some recitation teaching, and leading a track internationally). This position requires experience successfully communicating and working with diverse constituencies, including engaging, guiding, and communicating with students and parents. This individual will help form and develop strategic relationships with international partners, manage logistics for visiting international scholars, and identify new strategic international opportunities.

Required Qualifications

Successful candidates will have a Bachelor’s degree. Demonstrated experience in program administration. Ability to prioritize tasks, careful attention to detail, apply policies, and meet deadlines. Evidence of successful collaboration with individuals of diverse backgrounds and levels of authority. Demonstrated troubleshooting and problem-solving skills. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills. Ability to organize, multitask, and work independently in a team environment. Must be an enthusiastic team player, have a strong work ethic, and be interested in working with faculty members, graduate students, and undergraduate students. Must be able to engage in a collegial manner with parents, students, and stakeholders. Basic understanding of budget building principles

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s degree in business, education, a STEM discipline, or a related field. Experience working in a university environment is desired, in particular in global or international education programs. Experience designing and executing international programs, including pre-departure preparation and orientation methods. Experience working with travel reimbursements and budgeting. Working knowledge of university policies and procedures. Experience identifying external funding sources for international research and study abroad. Prior teaching experience. Experience living, working, or studying abroad or comparable cross-cultural experience, or significant experience traveling internationally.
