As a member of the Operations team within the Division of Marketing and Communications, the Business Analytics Specialist will work collaboratively with other team members to help turn data into actionable solutions for improved marketing, communications, planning and strategy for the Division, as well as our partners across the University. They will architect/maintain/administer the Syracuse University’s central web data collection, as well as other university-related sites, presenting data and assessment to ensure alignment with long-term marketing and strategic goals. They will also provide consulting/education on those web analytics to University partners as needed, and provide strategic recommendations.

The Business Analytics Specialist will also partner with Division team members and other University partners to provide business analysis and intelligence for various cross-functional marketing campaigns in order to improve current and future performance. Will work with the appropriate team members in order to streamline analytics systems (e.g., social, digital, etc.). Must be adept at translating complex data into clear and actionable marketing insights/recommendations.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred.

• Five (5) plus years of work experience or equivalent experience in website analytics and testing, website optimization, search, general analytics, data science, and/or technical project management is required.

Job Specific Qualifications

• Excellent communication skills, including explaining complex data in a clear, and concise way.

• The ability to propose and support a set of university-wide web analytics standards and guidelines.

• Extreme understanding of web analytics administration (specifically Google properties, Google certified preferred) Familiarity with interpreting/ facilitating the implementation of privacy requirements such as GDPR, COPPA, and other relevant privacy standards. Understanding of modern web design practices as they relate to delivering a positive end-user experience.

• Basic technical understanding of modern web development languages and tools such as: HTML, CSS, PHP, and JavaScript/JQuery.

• Strong ability to categorize and organize large volumes of disparate data.

• Strong statistical background, including hypothesis testing and interpretation.

• Ability to use data to form marketing recommendations.

• Proficiency with modern Data Visualization software, including Data Studio and Tableau. Familiarity with Power BI.

• Business Intelligence Development experience, particularly with marketing campaign data, dynamic dashboards, and mixed data sources.

• Project Management experience.

• Business Analysis experience – including data development and analysis, campaign and KPI assessment, and contributing to the evolution of future campaigns. Ability to collaborate.

Responsibilities

• Maintain and optimize all Google Analytics and related properties for the University, including Google Tag Manager, Google My Business and Google Ads, using industry best practices.

• Use the data to create dashboards, reports and other ad hoc needs.

• Provide web analytics consulting and education for University-related websites and make recommendations as to strategic and technical/functional performance improvements based on an overarching online strategy.

• Document and communicate University online analytics standards to promote best practices in website structure and build adherence to the Syracuse University brand.

• Develop business intelligence solutions using existing data streams and APIs.

• Partnering with the appropriate team members, provide expertise in the area of business intelligence for marketing analytics from multiple platforms, including social and digital, in the form of actionable insights/recommendations, which are delivered with clear and consistent communication.

• Working collaboratively with cross-functional teams, provide business analysis for marketing campaigns, including comparisons, benchmarks, organizing A/B testing in various scenarios, and other functional analysis of campaign performance.

• Performs post-hoc research and analysis of existing campaigns, translating complex data into clear and actionable insights/recommendations to improve future performance, which are delivered with clear and consistent communication.
