Job Description Summary
The director will promote and facilitate design, innovation, fabrication and project-based experiences across engineering disciplines and for undergraduate students from freshman to seniors as well as graduate students. The director will oversee the personnel, spaces, and operations associated with the college’s Design and Innovation Center in the Brown-Kopel Engineering Student Achievement Center, The director will assist faculty and students in development and implementation of curricular and co-curricular design and innovation projects, as well as build and sustain industry and agency relationships and collaborations to support student projects. The director will promote and develop constituent awareness and funding for student design and innovation experiences, including organization of multidisciplinary and public showcases, events, and competitions. Full supervisory responsibility for other employees is a responsibility and includes hiring, training, evaluating, and making or recommending pay, promotion, or other employment decisions. The director will report to the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Studies and Program Assessment. Depending on experience, qualifications, and interest, the successful candidate may be appointed as either a tenure-track (assistant/associate/full professor) faculty member or as a non-tenure-track (lecturer or professor of the practice) faculty member.

Qualifications for successful candidates include: a) a bachelors at the time employment begins in engineering, education, counseling, or related area; b) demonstrated record of commitment and desire to help students or employees develop and succeed; c) administrative or management experience; d) demonstrated success in innovation and design; e) abilities in strategic planning, relationship building, and achieving results; f) excellent written and interpersonal communication skills, and g) commitment to collaborative leadership.
A doctorate at time employment begins in engineering and appropriate credentials are required to qualify for either tenure-track or non-tenure track faculty status with the exception of professor of the practice appointment which does not require a doctorate.
