Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in sport management
  • Engage in scholarly activity and professional development
  • Provide leadership and management for the Sport Management program including accreditation through Commission on Sport Management Accreditation (COSMA)
  • Build collaborative partnerships with sport professionals and organizations to enhance experiential learning opportunities for students
  • Develop innovative programmatic initiatives including industry outreach activities and programs for student engagement
  • Actively engage in student advisement and mentoring
  • Supervise undergraduate internships
  • Assist with student recruitment and retention
  • Engage in service activities on the department, college and university levels
  • Work collaboratively with faculty to strengthen the programs within the department



Required Qualifications:
  • Earned doctorate (or completion by August 2021) in sport management or a closely related field; terminal degree must be from a regionally accredited or internationally accredited /government certified university
  • Teaching experience at the college level
  • Qualified to teach undergraduate and graduate level courses in most of the following areas: event management, venue design and operation in sport facilities, sport law, management and leadership in sport organizations, sport management principles and practices for international, collegiate, and professional sport, business principles, and governance of sport organizations
  • Experience with COSMA accreditation is preferred
  • Effective professional experience in the sport management field is preferred
  • Active engagement or membership in sport management professional associations
  • Strong interpersonal, written, oral communication and educational technology skills
  • Record of scholarship
  • Commitment to the Teacher-Scholar Model
  • Commitment to collegiality when interacting with others in the university community
  • Commitment to a diverse learning environment, including working with multi-cultural populations and an understanding of, and sensitivity to, issues affecting women and minorities

Departmental Information: The Department of Kinesiology, Nutrition and Recreation is in the College of Education, Health and Human Studies and has 19 full-time faculty members serving approximately 500 students. The department offers undergraduate degrees in Athletic Training, Dietetics, Health Management: Exercise Science, Health Sciences, Nutrition (Didactic Program in Dietetics, Nutrition & Wellness, & Nutritional Science options), Physical Education K-12, Recreation and Park Administration and Sport Management. Additionally, the department offers graduate degrees in Sport Management, Nutrition and Exercise Science, Master of Science in Applied Nutrition and is seeking to add a Master of Science in Athletic Training. The department offers nationally accredited programs in Athletic Training (CAATE), Dietetics (ACEND), Physical Education (CAEP/NAPSE), Recreation and Park Administration (COARPT), and Sports Management (COSMA).
