The Admissions/New Student Services Office invites applications for three (3) Admissions Rep I openings. The person assigned to this position will counsel prospective applicants on the admissions process and opportunities at the University of Montana, acting as a senior recruiter for the institution. The position is responsible for providing one-on-one and group admissions counseling to diverse populations.

This position will represent the University both on- and off-campus to a prospective student, parents, secondary school counselors and other individuals or organizations involved in the college selection process. To be successful in this role, the incumbent must effectively use data to plan and implement recruitment activities for assigned high schools and territories.

The employee occupying this position will serve as a liaison between prospective students and academic departments, colleges and schools, admissions evaluations and others. It is expected that this role plans recruitment initiatives within the parameters of defined budget; this position will also report budget updates to Director of Admissions.

These positions will not be responsible for the supervision or management of classified staff members or contract professionals, but may supervise or act as lead for student employees and volunteers.

Required Skills
  • Effective interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with prospective students and their families
  • Ability to talk knowledgably about UM and answer questions about academic programs, financial aid, student life, etc.
  • Effective public speaking and written communication skills with the ability to make presentations and represent the University of Montana in a professional manner in multiple cultural settings
  • Ability to coordinate/schedule large and small events
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and lead a project to completion
  • Demonstrated planning and decision-making skills and the ability to meet deadlines
  • Must be willing to work flexible hours, evenings and weekends as needed
  • Must have or be able to obtain a valid Montana’s Driver’s License
  • Must be able to travel for extended periods of time


Minimum Required Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field as well as at least (1) one year of directly related, relevant work experience; or any combination of experience and education that would provide the competencies required to successfully discharge the essential duties assigned to this position

Position Details

Position Title: Admissions Rep I

Department: Admissions Office

Work Schedule: Full-time, 1.0 FTE (40 Hours a week), Monday through Friday 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, 12 months/year, extended periods of travel.

Salary: $17.60/hr - position is exempt from overtime.

Union Affiliation: FOCUS-MFPE

Probationary Period: Six months minimum
