Position Description: The Department of Biology at Morgan State University (MSU) invites applications for two tenure-track positions at the Assistant or Associate Professor level to start in August 2021. We seek dynamic and energetic candidates with research and teaching strengths across a range of biological or environmental science subdisciplines. Candidates conducting research involving the application of data-intensive approaches to understand and address global challenges, such as human and environmental health and climate changes, are particularly encouraged to apply. Successful candidates are expected to establish an extramurally funded research program addressing related Environmental Science issues and teach on both undergraduate and doctoral levels in Biology or Bioenvironmental Science.

All candidates must demonstrate a high level of scholarship and research accomplishments as well as evidence of outstanding teaching and student mentoring. The department offers graduate programs including the Ph.D. degree in Bioenvironmental Science and the M.S. degree in Integrated Science, and an undergraduate program in Biology. The selected applicants are expected to contribute to the expanding department programs and interdisciplinary research projects in the School of Computer, Mathematical, and Natural Sciences. Applicants must also demonstrate a commitment to working with culturally diverse faculty and student populations.

Qualifications: A Ph.D. degree in biological and environmental sciences with at least one year of postdoctoral experience and a track record of peer-reviewed publications. Other preferred qualifications include: 1) success in obtaining extramural funding; 2) a record of teaching at the university level and/or mentoring undergraduate and graduate students; and 3) a commitment to inclusive excellence in teaching, research, and service.

How to apply: Your application package should be completed at the MSU Human Resources website at https://morgan.peopleadmin.com or directly emailed to Dr. Cleo Hughes-Darden, (Cleo.HughesDarden@morgan.edu), Chair, Department of Biology with the following: 1) a curriculum vitae; 2) a letter of intent including research accomplishments and interests, teaching philosophy and experience, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in STEM education; and 3) a list of three names and contact information from whom professional references might be obtained. Review of applications will begin immediately and will continue until the position is filled.
