The University of Dayton Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering invites applications for a tenure track position at the Associate Professor level specializing in Materials Engineering. The Department offers new faculty an opportunity to join a community deeply committed to their success and to student education at all levels. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an externally funded research program and exhibit a strong commitment to teaching at the graduate levels. The successful candidate will also be expected to develop strong government and / or industrial research collaborations, support a diverse population of students, and engage in service to the University, profession and community. All relevant materials engineering research areas will be considered with preference given to those that extend or complement current research at the University of Dayton. This position will start on August 16, 2021.

Minimum Qualifications

Ph.D. in Materials Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or related field
● An established record of at least 5 years of innovative materials engineering research with a detailed vision for future research growth
● Excellent written communication skills
● Previous experience within formal or informal teaching environments
● Demonstrated commitment to understanding and promoting inclusive excellence
● Because of the need for collaborations with U.S. government and government affiliates, and the need to access research facilities, U.S. citizenship is required.

Preferred Qualifications

While applicants may not possess all of the preferred qualifications, the ideal candidate will bring many of the following qualifications:
● Successful experience:
o Working as an on-site collaborator or contractor at a United States Department of Defense (DoD) installation
o Teaching as instructor of record for a college-level course
o Collaborating with industrial or government partners
o Developing, growing, managing, and leading R&D programs as the principle investigator
o Mentoring students and post-docs from diverse backgrounds
● Established record of successful grant writing and obtaining extramural funding
● Effective oral communication skills
● Effective interpersonal communication skills
● Demonstrated commitment to innovative teaching strategies
● A commitment to breadth of education including educating the whole person in the Marianist tradition, and a commitment of service to the community, university and profession.
