REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Position Reports to: Director, Office of Research & Sponsored Projects (ORSP)

 

POSITION PURPOSE

The Survey Research Specialist provides professional expertise in the areas of facilitating, conducting, analyzing, writing, and editing scholarly work for submission of abstracts and papers for publication, specifically as it pertains to survey research.   The Survey Research Specialist is responsible for assisting with planning, developing, and/or consulting on academic surveys. Duties may include analysis and interpretation of survey data, determination of survey objectives, and/or suggestion of question wording.  The Survey Research Specialist works closely with ORSP personnel, faculty in various programs, and other university constituents. The Survey Research Specialist also collaborates with faculty or research advisors in assisting and motivating students in all graduate programs toward publication of their research. The Survey Research Specialist will be a faculty member with academic rank commensurate with experience and expertise.

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Research Initiatives

  • Serve as primary faculty in courses for graduate students in various programs as per expertise, as approved by the EVP of Academic Affairs and Provost.
  • Oversee residential and post-professional student survey research, and other scholarly work, as assigned and work collaboratively with the Director of ORSP.
  • Work with faculty to assist in survey research project development. 
  • Promote and facilitate survey research activities including inter-professional, collaborative research 
  • Assist with faculty, students, and alumni in preparing the following:
    • abstract for platform submission at conferences
    • abstract for poster submission at conferences
    • publication submissions from dissertations
    • monitor submissions and work with students on revisions if needed
  • Establish consistent and widespread research connections and networks
  • Support the University’s mission and promote the University's contribution to clinical inquiry and the reputation of the University through the University’s research agenda
  • Author and work with others to develop publications under the auspices of RMUoHP
  • Work collaboratively with ORSP personnel to seek out and foster collaborative research opportunities between post-professional faculty and students and residential faculty and students
  • In conjunction with the Director and Associate Director of ORSP, organize workshops related to survey research
  • 2. Other Requirements

    1. Teach, as appropriate, in area(s) of expertise as directed by the supervisor or EVPAAP
    2. Participate in continuing education activities related to teaching responsibilities
    3. Assume other duties as assigned

    WORKING REQUIREMENTS/CONDITIONS

    Education/Certification:

    Terminal Doctoral Degree (PhD, EdD, DSc) in related field

    Required Knowledge:

    Should have exceptional communication skills, and an in-depth understanding of higher education.

    Experience Required:

    Previous experience working in areas related to this position. Extensive experience in survey research.

    Skills/Abilities:

    Strong interpersonal skills. Demonstrated administrative experience. Strong commitment to academic excellence and an ability to work with diverse constituencies

     

    PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

    Finger dexterity:

    Using primarily just the fingers to make small movements such as typing, picking up small objects, or pinching fingers together

    Talking:

    Especially where one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly

    Average Hearing:

    Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information

    Average Visual Abilities:

    Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect documents or products, or operate machinery

    Physical Strength:

    Sedentary work. Sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally (Almost all office jobs)

    MENTAL ACTIVITIES AND REQUIREMENTS OF THIS POSITION

    Reasoning Ability:

    Ability to deal with a variety of variables under only limited standardization

    Able to interpret various instructions

    Mathematics Ability:

    Ability to perform basic math skills, use decimals to compute ratios and percentages, and draw and interpret graphs

    Language Ability:

    Ability to read a variety of books, magazines, instruction manuals, atlases, and encyclopedias; Ability to prepare memos, reports, and essays using proper punctuation, spelling, and grammar 

    Ability to communicate distinctly with appropriate pauses and emphasis; correct pronunciation (or sign equivalent); and variation in word order using present, perfect, and future tenses
