The University of Arkansas at Little Rock, Department of Art and Design is accepting applications for a full-time, nine-month, position as Windgate Metals Artist-In-Residence (R0002391) to commence August of 2021. We are seeking an energetic, self-directed artist and dedicated instructor. While maintaining a robust studio practice, the Windgate Metals Artist-In-Residence will teach a 2/2 course load, mentor Metals concentration students, and actively contribute within the Department of Art and Design. This position is responsible for overseeing the Metals emphasis within Applied Design (Wood, Metals, Ceramics). The Windgate Artist-In-Residence position includes a private studio adjacent to the Metals teaching studio and an annual travel allowance. The Windgate Metals Artist-In-Residence is a one-year, renewable position to be reviewed annually.

Required education and experience include an MFA in a metals studio art discipline; university-level teaching experience (which could include graduate teaching assistantships); evidence of scholarship related to position’s requirements; engagement in creative work as a studio artist with a record of creative exhibitions; the ability to teach all aspects of metalsmithing and jewelry; strong technical knowledge in the field; experience in leadership and/or mentoring, and knowledge of computer software and digital fabrication tools related to art, design, and teaching.

The Department of Art and Design has 16 full-time faculty and support positions, multiple part-time positions, and 180+ majors that include undergraduate and graduate-level students. BA and BFA degrees are offered in studio art with concentrations in painting, drawing, printmaking, photography, graphic design, illustration, and sculpture; applied design with concentrations in furniture design, metals, and ceramics; art education with licensure; and art history. An MA degree is offered with emphases in visual art and art history. The department is housed in the newly constructed 65,500 sq. ft. Windgate Center of Art + Design facility and is accredited by NASAD. The University of Arkansas at Little Rock serves a diverse population of 9,500 traditional and non-traditional students. As the capital of Arkansas, Little Rock has an active downtown, arts district, multiple parks and trails for hiking and bicycling, and a population of 200,000.
