Position Summary:
Reserve Services of the Sheridan Libraries has the primary mission of connecting users with materials to support teaching at Johns Hopkins. Reserve Services staff identify, locate and provide access to materials for course users across multiple academic divisions at JHU: Krieger Arts and Sciences, Advanced Academic Programs, Education, Carey Business School, Whiting School of Engineering, and Engineering for Professionals. The Library Specialist position in Reserves is a unique role that works across Library and University departments to create and facilitate access to course materials.

Responsibilities:
Search and create access to course materials:
• Interpret and organize course information submitted by faculty.
• Search bibliographic and discovery tools to identify resources for course readings.
• Use electronic reserve and library management systems to create access to electronic and print resources, to provide tracking information, and to solve problems.
• Interact with faculty to clarify information, explain policy, and redress problems.
• Track and ensure compliant use of licensed, digital resources; understand and apply “fair use” regulations.
• Work with Acquisitions staff to order resources in multiple formats, organize licenses, and resolve problems.
• Diagnose and resolve access problems for users, troubleshooting Ares and Blackboard and investigating the Library’s electronic resources to investigate updates and changes that could affect access. Partner with IT, Acquisitions, and University staff where necessary.
• Operate scanners, conversion and editing software, and directories generate and upload PDFs to the electronic reserve system; understand ADA compliance standards and ensure baseline readability standards for Reserves’ PDFs, especially for PDFs generated outside Reserves. Work with Reserves’ partners in Digitization to manage workflow and generate best-quality PDFs.
• Help to coordinate all activities in the EReserve system to support daily work, to maintain the system, and to generate reports. Understand Blackboard integration. Help to test upgrades and advise re: enhancements.

Additional duties:
• Help to train limited term staff and direct their work.
• Identify improvements to Reserves’ operations.
• Assist in the creation and implementation of new procedures, policies and services.
• Participate in outreach and other special projects or initiatives related to Reserves.
• Engage in professional development.

Qualifications:
• High School Diploma or GED required
• 3 years related library or academic experience.
• Additional education may be substituted for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.
• Ability to analyze detailed and conceptual information to solve problems and help guide change.
• Ability to master multiple online systems, software and tools.
• Ability to communicate information to train staff, guide patrons, prepare data and reports, and make presentations at meetings.
• Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues, faculty and students.
• Capacity to exercise good judgment and make independent decisions.
• Ability to manage multiple, time-sensitive assignments.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree preferred
• Experience with Adobe applications; Microsoft Office applications; distribution lists; digital devices; library management and resource sharing systems; and bibliographic discovery resources.
• Familiarity with academic teaching and research.
• Reading knowledge of a modern foreign language.

Starting Salary Range:$17.42 to $23.95 per hour

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
