Chemistry - Postdoctoral Fellow in Physical Organic Chemistry Date: 03/05/2021 The Department of Chemistry at Colby College invites applications for a David Lee Phillips Postdoctoral Fellow position in Physical Organic Chemistry to begin July 1, 2021.The position may be supported for up to two years.

Qualifications

We welcome applications from candidates with research interests in experimental and theoretical physical organic chemistry. Preference will be given to applicants with expertise in organic synthesis, computational chemistry, spectroscopy, photochemistry, and mechanistic studies. Although this is primarily a research position, the successful candidate will have an opportunity to teach up to one undergraduate lecture or laboratory course per semester which can be selected from: Introductory Organic Chemistry, Advanced Organic Chemistry, Thermodynamics and Kinetics, or Quantum Mechanics. Candidates must have a Ph.D. by the start date and a strong commitment to undergraduate education.

The position is supported by a competitive compensation package and excellent laboratory facilities. The Department of Chemistry at Colby is equipped with outstanding instrumentation including a 500 MHz NMR spectrometer, single-crystal X-ray diffractometer, nano-second time resolved laser flash photolysis system, automatic flash chromatography systems, microwave reactors, photochemical assemblies, accurate mass LC-TOFMS system, elemental analyzer, as well as several GC-MS, HPLC, IR, Fluorescence, and UV-vis instruments. The Natural Science Computer Cluster at Colby is a fully equipped facility that is available to perform both routine and high-end quantum chemical calculations.
