Assistant/Associate/Full Professor - Physiology and Pharmacology
Assistant - Associate - Full Professor
Tenure Track Faculty Position
Department of Physiology and Pharmacology
As part of an expansion of our existing research strengths in xenobiotic inhalation exposures and systemic health outcomes, the Department of Physiology and Pharmacology (DPP) and the Center for Inhalation Toxicology (iTOX) at the West Virginia University Health Sciences Center (WVU HSC) invite applications from outstanding scientists for one tenure-track faculty position, available Spring 2021. This recruitment is open to individuals with promising or established research programs, to be appointed at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank. We seek investigators whose research programs position them to be primary users of the iTOX Inhalation Facility, or significant collaborators with existing faculty. Successful candidates will have a strong fundamental background and training in physiology, toxicology, and/or pharmacology with specific emphasis on the application of these approaches to the systemic impacts of inhalation exposures to environmental, personal, and/or occupational toxicants. Individuals utilizing experimental approaches incorporating inhalation exposures, novel techniques, modeling of physiologic systems in environmental health and/or disease in their research programs are especially encouraged to apply. The overarching goal of the successful candidate’s research program should be to improve health disparities in West Virginia.
We especially seek investigators whose research programs will complement/expand our existing strengths in physiology and toxicology:
• inhalation exposure and systemic injury
• cardiovascular function
• reproduction and developmental origins of health and disease
• pulmonary function and immunology
• redox biology/physiology
• engineered nanomaterial and advanced material toxicity
Appointees will be expected to significantly contribute to the WVU missions of research, teaching and service. The successful candidate will receive a generous startup package, competitive salary, fully renovated laboratory space commensurate with experience, rank and qualifications, as well as full access to our state-of-the-art rodent Inhalation Facility housed within the DPP and iTOX.
The WVU HSC supports excellent core facilities that include proteomics and protein mass spectrometry, confocal and multi-photon microscopy, functional imaging, flow cytometry, histology, and mouse gene- editing/transgenics. The WVU HSC has unique rodent inhalation exposure facilities. This multi-million dollar infrastructure affords capacity for nine exposure chambers, real-time aerosol characterization, and telemetry in AAALAC accredited facilities. Aerosol exposure options include: nanomaterials, combustion-related air pollutants, gases, and cigarette/e-cigarettes. The Inhalation Facility recently added novel surrogate aerosol generators to study military burn pit exposures and exhaled droplets. The National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health is adjacent to the WVU HSC and provides an excellent source of potential collaborators interested in the toxicologic effects of occupational exposures. WVU is a comprehensive, Carnegie- designated Doctoral Research-Extensive, public institution. Morgantown is rated as one of the best small towns in the U.S., with affordable housing, excellent schools, a picturesque countryside and access to some of the best outdoor venues in the country.
For all ranks, Ph.D., M.D., or M.D./Ph.D., two or more years of postdoctoral training, evidence of significant peer-reviewed research accomplishments and demonstrated experience in the instruction of professional and/or graduate students. Appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor will be expected to develop a competitive, extramurally funded, research program and further develop their nascent skills in instruction of professional and graduate students. Appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor must have current NIH or equivalent extramural funding and demonstrable excellence in instruction of professional and graduate students. Interested individuals must apply via: https://wvu.taleo.net/careersection/faculty/jobdetail.ftl?job=16496 with a cover letter, current curriculum vitae, detailed research and teaching statements, and the names and contact information for three references. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
