The Alexander Campbell King Law Library has a rich, established collection of over 500,000 digital and print titles. We are dedicated to providing anytime/anywhere access to information, rich and expansive instructional offerings and strong support of law school faculty and administrative offices. Juris Doctor from an ABA -accredited law school and a Master’s degree in Library Science from an ALA -accredited library school

Position Summary

The Associate Director of Research Services will plan, develop, monitor, and assess Law Library research services and reference programs for the Law School community. The position is also responsible for teaching for-credit legal research courses and coordinating informal instruction. Reports to the Director of the Law Library.

Duties and Responsibilities of the Associate Director for Research Services:
- Plan, develop, monitor, and assess all Law Library research and reference services provided to the Law School community
- Coordinate the Law Library’s promotion of faculty scholarship
- Oversee the Law Library research assistant program
- Collaborate with the Director and Associate Directors to develop and execute vision and strategies to ensure that the Law Library’s services and resources support the established mission and initiatives of the Law School
- Teach for-credit legal research instruction including 1L Legal Research and specialized legal research courses; participate in informal instruction to law students
- Participate in professional, scholarly and service activities

Additional Requirements

A J.D. from an ABA -accredited law school and an ALA -accredited master’s degree in librarianship or information science.

Relevant/Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification

- Minimum of 3 years experience in providing faculty services.
- Minimum of 1 year in a supervisory position

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies

- Mastery of basic and advanced legal research sources and techniques using print and digital sources.
- Demonstrated ability to provide law school instruction.
- Strong interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent project management skills
- Demonstrated ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Knowledge of educational technologies, such as PowerPoint and learning management systems, preferably Desire2Learn.

Plan, develop, monitor, and assess all Law Library research and reference services provided to the Law School community. Coordinate the Law Library’s promotion of faculty scholarship. Supervise law librarians responsible for research services. Compile and analyze research and reference statistics. Serve as primary liaison to law faculty. Oversee Law Library research assistant program.

Instructional Services:

Responsible for teaching for-credit legal research instruction including 1L legal research, advanced legal research, and specialized legal research courses. Offer informal legal research instruction such as class presentations, training, library tours, or continuing legal education seminars.

Percentage Of Time 30 Duties/Responsibilities

Leadership and Administration:

In collaboration with the Director and Associate Directors develop and execute vision and strategies to ensure that library services support the mission and initiatives of the law school. Direct and indirect supervision of individuals with librarian classification. Conduct annual performance evaluations for direct reports. Foster a creative, team-oriented work environment. This position is also responsible for coordinating research and reference services functions with instructional, access, outreach, and collection services functions.

Participate in professional, scholarly and service activities. Maintain an extensive knowledge of emerging library and legal education trends. Additional duties are undertaken with a willing attitude and helpful demeanor. Acquire new skills as needed.
